Coca Cola or the Cheaper Store Brand Options?

Ask a Question

I’ve never been much of a coke fan, but I do think the original versus the others out there taste different - not necessarily better, but certainly different

do you prefer the original, or are there any knock off versions that you think taste better? If so, where from?

I find supermarket own brand versions to be too thin and watery.

Coca Cola is much nicer by far. Though my absolute favourite has to be Pepsi Max.

I stopped drinking sugary drink years ago, but I used to swear by Coca Cola. I didn't like other brands.

I am with you there gaelle0501 I can't abide sugary fizzy drinks and they are so bad for you! I have a friend/colleague who comes to my house regularly and I keep cordial especially for her. She helps herself and I am not exaggerating when I say she fills the glass with a third cordial and two thirds water.....it makes me shudder. If I do occasionally indulge I just cover the bottom of the glass with cordial so it just vaguely flavours the water.

gaelle0501 yes I kid you not lol. I can't even drink fruit juice without diluting it at least 50/50 with water.

I used to really be able to taste a difference but there are so many own brands now which are challenging them. If I'm using as a mixer I get a diet version for 17p

I don't drink cola much but the only one I actually really like is Pepsi Max. I find normal sugar cola's too sweet although of those probably the original Coca Cola is my favourite. Some of the store brand cola's are ok both sugar and diet but can't get on with the very cheap sub 30p colas (2ltr bottles) or freeway cola. There is also that very expensive brand I've forgotten the name of which is about £2 for a small bottle, that is very nice but not sure its any nicer than normal Coca Cola although I think one of the main selling points of that is the healthier way it is made.

Looking forward to trying Coca Cola Stevia when it comes to the UK as worry a bit about the less healthy sweeteners in Pepsi Max. Years ago I used to get through a lot of Pepsi Max but now I get the occasional bottle.

I recently tried the asda diet cola, as it was so much cheaper and i am a fan of Diet Coke (although I hate the taste of original coke) and the asda version was terrible 🤦🏻‍♀️ tasted nothing like Diet Coke.. would not recommend!

not a fan of the cheaper brand options, as they never taste the same. So I just try to get my drinks at promo prices

Coca cola by miles! I just an ice cold can or a glass with ice cubes when i'm out for a meal. Just as a treat though.

Coca Cola has a responsibility to keep it's custom so its not going to cut the same corners that non branded stuff can do. I know they say that you can get it cheaper but, not with somethings, without having to compensate.

Let’s face it, there is a reason why store brand versions of coca cola are cheaper because they are not as good as the original product and probably are even worse for your health, teeth, body etc..more so than regular coca cola.

Not as good maybe but I don't think they are worse for your health, some feature better sweeteners like stevia and don't have as many additives or as much sugar. Recently we had the sugar tax on soft drinks and the supermarket versions reduced their sugar but the big brands like Coke kept to their original formulations with higher sugar and paid the tax. So often the cheaper versions are healthier especially as they are so awful most of them just get poured away when they go flat because they have sat in the fridge for 6 weeks with no one drinking them.

Coca Cola is defo better than the store brand options, you can definitely taste the difference. Coca Cola costs more but it's worth it, some store brand ones taste ok, but I have tried some that aren't nice to drink at all.

I don't like supermarket brands and not really a fan of coke either but I do love Pepsi/pepsi max. I'm trying to cut it out altogether though because I drink too much of it.

The only supermarket brand of coke I’ll drink is Aldi. All the others taste watery fizz. Their lemonade is actually better than most premium brands. And at 40p it saves me a small fortune. I like Pepsi and will only buy it from cheaper stores like homebargains and b&m. Coke every now and then too
