How to Combat Tiredness?
Ask a Question
How do you deal with your energy levels and feeling tired?
I literally wake up feeling even more exhausted than I did before I went to sleep
Do you have any tips or remedies that can help you deal with tiredness?
Thanks
i sure with CFs/me chronic fatigue. checik out nhs website they will give you advice on things to do. its to long for me to explain it all on here. hope you feel better soon ***
Many thanks, I will definitely have a read up on that and see if any symptoms match and what I can benefit from. Thank you x
There are lots of different remedies to gain energy...the stores are full with them under re-vitalize...etc names
I think because it is Winter and it gets so dark early, we feel more tired.
Healthy diet can help a lot....lots of fruits and vegetables. Atkins diet is great....first 2 weeks are nightmare than it gives a huge energy boost.
Yes I don’t think the cold and dark helps lol! I have quite a poor diet too so that could be a factor, I will have a read up on the Atkins diet as well, thanks very much x
AliceBell64468 tut tut lol. Yes poor diet is the major cause. Too much sugar and carbs will make you tired and lead to Diabetes 2 if not careful. I ate all the wrong stuff as a teen and young woman and now have it and it started with overwhelming tiredness. Also you must stay hydrated as that can be a factor. I started drinking lots of water a few years ago and saw a vast change for the better in energy, skin and hair. Skin also stopped itching.
AliceBell64468 I was going to mention hydration. (then I saw Lynibis's comment) We take for granted that we drink enough throughout the day but we don't. Over the past 10 years even schools have recognised the fact that children become tired and uninterested when they are dehydrated so it's a 'given' that personal water bottles are used throughout he day by pupils. Have a look at your lighting in the home as well - you could be a SAD sufferer.
Thanks both Lynibis & angemski. I will try and make changes to both my diet and drink intake as they are both very poor really. I did used to constantly have a water bottle to stay hydrated but these days I go from 8 until 5 without a single drink, but have started taking water out with me again but at the moment probably have less than a pint during the day. I drink 1 or 2 pints of water or squash in the evenings. Thanks again for your advice x
AliceBell64468 Wow! 8 - 5? You answered your own problem. Drinking in the evening isn't going to help.....apart from exercising your bladder. It's hard but make a few changes and let us know if it works.
angemski Yes recently I’ve been quite bad and my boyfriend went mad at me saying I don’t help myself! But I know he’s right. Thank you, I’m sure I will start seeing an improvement soon x
Turmeric, which I'm sure you can get in a capsule, is supposed to be great to help with your energy levels. It's supposed to give you a boost. Hope this helps, but like you said yourself, if you're not drinking through the day, you're not helping yourself.
I will keep my eye out for those tomorrow when I am shopping, I do try and take some other supplements like multivitamins & iron, fish liver oils & evening primrose oil but there’s room for more lol! Thank you x
To overcome tiredness, it's important to sleep well, i.e. to get a good night's sleep.
Here's how to do it:
- Keep a consistent sleep schedule. Get up at the same time every day, even on weekends or during vacations.
- Set a bedtime that is early enough for you to get at least 7 hours of sleep.
- Don’t go to bed unless you are sleepy.
- If you don’t fall asleep after 20 minutes, get out of bed.
- Establish a relaxing bedtime routine.
- Use your bed only for sleep and sex.
- Make your bedroom quiet and relaxing. Keep the room at a comfortable, cool temperature.
- Limit exposure to bright light in the evenings.
- Turn off electronic devices at least 30 minutes before bedtime.
- Don’t eat a large meal before bedtime. If you are hungry at night, eat a light, healthy snack.
- Exercise regularly and maintain a healthy diet.
- Avoid consuming caffeine in the late afternoon or evening.
- Avoid consuming alcohol before bedtime.
- Reduce your fluid intake before bedtime.

There is some good pointers there Johnny, thanks very much for sharing the advice. A lot of the things listed I don’t currently do so hopefully if I follow a few more of these steps it should help me. Thanks
AliceBell64468 Have you visited the GP to try and find out the cause of your tiredness.
It could well be an underlying health condition causing the tiredness not trying to worry you but think it would be worth a getting some blood tests done to rule out anything like that causing the tiredness.
Just a couple of random examples something like anemia or type 2 diabetes would cause tiredness which once appropriate treatment is received the tiredness would improve.
was going to mention combination of anaemia and dehydration with the diet maybe lacking- also vit b12 etc may be worth investing in a SAD wake up light- helped me although you need to use it a few weeks to see real benefits. I also have CFS so as others have mentioned try improving the diet first if in a few weeks you are not turning a corner get a check with your GP - best of luck.
Caffeine for a quick fix is always my go to solution for tiredness. All the above will help overall but the obvious answer is good if you need it straight away.
Depends on the cause.
I have chronic fatigue and am exhausted 24/7. no sleep helps me and I could sleep all day everyday
