Comp Sponsors Need to Think about Prizes on Offer
Other
I am entering less and less competitions lately because so many are holidays and weekends away. Not worth winning with isolation and social distancing.
One said prize had to be taken by November 20. Even IF the crisis was over by then (which is doubted) those who have gone back to work will not be inclined to ask for time off.
Another is a pass to a theme park for 2020. Won't get much use out of that.
Either don't bother running a comp or maybe offer up some self medicating booze, toilet rolls, sanitiser, food parcels, paracetamol (See where I am going?).
Anyway this thread is tongue in cheek but winning a comp would be good medicine right now. Maybe they could extend the take up time of travel prizes?
I entirely agree. Toilet roll & paracetamol would be a great prize, far better than a weekend away. Having tried to do a little shopping this morning I think that fresh fruit & veg, anything tinned, bread etc all of these would be gratefully received as a prize in this, and many other, houses.
You are right though I am entering less comps too, partly due to not using social media but also because of the prizes offered, who wants a holiday abroad in the current climate.
tumblespots I read a short time ago that it was the only continent that it hadn't reached, but I'd guess by all the rich people who were heading there for sanctuary that if one of them carried the virus, that might be old news.
I am sharing less and less for the same reason. What's the point in sharing a comp that involves travel or an away-stay? Unless it's for a cleaning bundle or something personal I don't see the point - it's becoming more difficult to find a good one anyway.
As most competitions are planned months in advance I would like to think that the 'prize provider' would see sense and offer the winner an extension to dates or an alternative prize.
I thought this as well. Lots of weekends away here and there and holidays etc, days out in london. Not going to be happening. I wondered if they would give cash out to winners instead as the comps are already running.
The other day I saw this comp for a holiday to Italy posted on here. And I have to say that I was really amazed by the number of people on LD who have entered it, given the current situation. Especially since Italy has been hit the hardest.
That should serve as a warning to those who've been panic buying PASTA that pasta didn't do the Italians much good.
(apologies to anyone who might think some of my comments appear inappropriate but at times like this it's necessary to try to find something for others to perhaps "lighten their day").
davidstockport A bit of humour is always a good thing to have. You need to see the light in a dark situation. So thanks, David.
I think it's called gallows humour lol. davidstockport Apparently doctors do it all the time!
RegularComper90 But always remember "That light at the end of the tunnel" might be a train coming straight at you!
Doctors need to - have you ever realised that nearly every time they get to know someone reasonably well - that person goes and dies.
Lynibis It's nice that you have decided to come back to the chat section. You and David are part of the furniture on here. Your contributions are always welcome.
Ah that's really lovely of you RegularComper90 I do feel at home on here, just wish we could follow folk we regularly chat with! X
Lynibis That would be a great idea as it can be a little difficult searching for the interesting meaty topics, as the chat section can easily get clogged with the rubbish ones.
I agree toilet roll is a great price as toilet is like gold at the moment so hard to get some.
