Competitive Eaters?

There seems to be a rise in the UK of competitive eaters, what do you all think of it? Honestly it just makes me think of all the people who cant afford to eat in the UK right now I cant see the appeal...am I missing the point?
It does seem wasteful, and it's not good for their health. I heard that the guy from Man Vs Food was told to quit for health reasons.
I don't think it's a good competition but it does matter for those who do it so I don't care about it.
Yeah its getting bigger in the UK now as its alredy massive in america. I follow a few of the main uk ones on youtube - beard meets food, leah shutkever, kyle v food and kate ovens. I often think i could do that but then i struggle to finish one big meal
