I am concerned about my details being used fraudulently but what can I do other than take all the recommended precautions. We are all too used to online shopping, banking, chatting and sharing to go backwards now.

I would prefer it if companies didn't store my details but most of the time you are not aware that they are doing it. More annoying to me is companies like insurance who store credit card details and auto renew, that should never be allowed in my opinion.

In the case of the insurers i call them.to cancel the renewal the day it starts. But to be fair they are potentially doing you a favour if you forget to renew as if you get pulled a few days after renewal due and you forget then theyve stopped you getting a few hundred quid fine, 6 points and higher premiums for a few years

I have never had any type of insurance automatically renewed without first receiving a letter saying it's time to renew and unless they hear different they will go ahead and do it.

BW07 Yes but my point is they should not be storing your card details in the first place , Regards to doing me a favour, I don't think so, they always increase the premium each year , it's why I shop around each year ,

Lynibis True but they are holding your bank card details on file, maybe your happy with that, I'm certainly not

Mango4 no I wouldn't say happy but I have never heard of a reputable company ripping anyone off. I would create such a stink if they took more than they should.

The security for mobile phones and computers needs to improve I am concerned that people can spy through the camera and listen to what you say by using the microphone.

I am but not excessively. Still, as I like to do as I please online I use a VPN so the ISP can't track down which website I've visited or what I downloaded. The ISP is not a babysitter so their job isn't to see what we're doing but make sure they can offer us quality download/upload speeds and customer service when needed.

They might not care but at the end of the day they could have evidence of you illegally downloading something copyrighted and you could potentially be sued in court. Well, it rarely happens but you never know. Not saying I do, but it's what some folks do.
