Would You Consider Emigrating?
Other
When I was a kid my parents emigrated to Australia as £10 Poms. As a young teen i really did not want to go but like most youngsters i adapted and settled, only to be hauled back again when I was 16. Parents couldn't settle and dad couldn't get enough work to pay for education, medical etc.
Would you? Could you?
We considered emigrating to Spain at one time but had to put it on hold as my father in law became very ill. Since then we moved from the busy south coast and have settled in the East Midlands and are very happy.
Glad it was a good move for you. I think many people don't like the idea of leaving loved ones to live abroad, especially if ill. Although air travel is quick and relatively cheap now, it might not always be so.
Lynibis we don't have much family to leave behind so it wouldn't have been too much of a wrench for us, but ultimately Mr Tumblespots wouldn't have been able to stand the heat!
tumblespots tell me about it. I spent boxing day at an open air pool in Oz and the next 3 days in bed with sunstroke! My parents were so cross with me but I hadn't felt the sun as I was jumping in and out of the water but apparently the rays are reflected so even worse.
Lynibis I did that in france once and had a t shape bandage on my back for more than a week, so I do sympathize.
I don’t think I could at all, I think those that do are so brave!
I honestly could just never leave my mum, I live about half hour drive from her now and when me and my partner first moved here I found it so difficult to cope because before she was just a stones throw away. Its silly really as I have a car and can always go and see her but I could never move city especially not country! I’m a proper home bird
Nothing wrong with that Hannah, good that you are close to your mum, distance and as a daughter. I am sure she appreciates it too. X
Yes I could, and I’ve lived for long periods abroad, but that was mainly as I’ve yet to decide on which country to settle in... I might never settle on one country. I’m a citizen of the world, happy to be around unfamiliar surroundings
I've never even considered emigrating, but can understand why some people do:
If I was living in the United States - I'd probably want to emigrate to Mexico before some idiot builds a wall to try to stop me doing so.
Mexico have walls of their own to keep illegals out, so, Mexico wouldn't be the country for you. I'm sure Trudeau would welcome you in.
Rockman It's amazing how many don't know that there is already a barrier between much of the USA and Mexico - I was surprised to see it when I Googled it a few years ago - that was before the great orange one planned a new one.
The Niagra Falls and associated river helps the Canadians.
I'm wondering if and how it's planned to build a wall across the Rio Grandé - I personally can't see much point of a wall - hasn't he heard of boats and aeroplanes?
I was brought up in Cornwall. Then moved to Devon. We lived there for 20 years. Then moved to the highlands of Scotland and brought a farm. My mum past away 12 years ago. Dad pass away 12 weeks ago. And I am staying put I am not moving. I love this life. It's good for me. Yes I am disable. But people think because I am disabled I should move away. But I said no . This is my home. And I could not leave or sale my animals. I have a horses coming up to 31 years old in the summer. I have a goose who will be 9 years old in the summer. And for his birthday I looking for a lady friend. Then I've got my few sheep. Which will lamb march or April. So i just cant give up any of this i am very happy here.
That depends. You can't just think about moving to another country and then that's it, you need to learn their language, abide by their laws and be respectful to their culture.
There's a lot of people out there who make it impossible to know what they're saying because they can't speak the language of the country they moved in to. I mean, if you're just passing through as a tourist then it's understandable but to actually live, you gotta learn it.
I can speak and write in English, Portuguese and Spanish while also able to understand Italian, Catalàn, Galego and some French but not speak it. Well, most of these languages are Latin and I'm Latin so it's obvious I'd be able to understand and know them.
Although, Euskerá (another language in Spain) is really damn hard and they usually (not always) offer to speak in Castellano (aka Spanish) as they know not a lot are used to it.
As for a country I'd like to move in, either Andorra or America but life has a way of working itself out.
