Contactless Limit in UK to Be Increased to £45

In the News

https://www.ukfinance.org.uk/press/press-releases/contactless-limit-uk-be-increased-45

The spending limit for contactless card payments will be increased from £30 to £45, with a national roll-out beginning from 1 April 2020, UK Finance has announced.

most stores currently have signs to say they’re only accepting contactless payments, to limit chances of transmission, so the increase is welcomed as £45 isn’t very much if someone wants to do a weekly shop instore (if there are enough items available for a weekly shop, that is)

just be careful when paying this way, and keep an eye on your statements, as the card skimmers are just waiting to exploit this

Hmm contactless - good idea can you make people contactless too - seems the millenials still think its not a problem just saw a load of them playing football down the park.

Looting has started in Glasgow already.

I was in such a good mood but my bruvv just phoned they just put two guys in hospital tried to break into the garage then when that didnt work they tried my auld folks house and my bruvv is just back from Afghanistan I am surprised they didnt put them in the Morgue, very surprised and my girlfriends shop had an attempted burglarly last night too first time ever in the history of ever - things were going so well but i guess the bad times are here for a while.

Watch yourself Spexy i would even start watching when you go out police numbers are falling and the criminals know it the number of scam phone calls and emails is through the roof - pretty sad indictment of humanity when all is going to hell some people are just rushing to push us ever further to the firey pit!

I posted this last night but some of the auld grannies complained and had it removed but if the police are warning already then i would be prepared - government should never have banned tazers - I have a link for building one - not that i would ever condone or build one myself!

😜

Oh dear, sounds like the party has started! We don’t get much police around patrolling, as they know they’re not safe when going on the beat. And as for online scams, I don’t waste my time with action fraud as they’re less than helpful (just adding to the stats and not actually investigating cases). At present it is quieter than I expected, but the weekend is only round the corner...

hspexy Yeah my younger brother is blind but he has already got the baseball bat out and an axe at his front door and he actually walked 2 miles all the way up to Asda yesterday on his own = wow can you imagine being blind in this chaos and trying to go shopping even though i am just up the road he refuses to accept help he is more stubborn than I am - my hat is off to him i admire my wee bruvv so much he is a real hero, and my big bruvvs they are military so lets just say they have some protective "equipment" from their tour of Helmand at home!

My mum and wee bruvv were walking back from his optician years ago and some asian coward pulled a knife and tried to mug my mum and god help him my wee bruvv always carries a rolling pin with him he just pulled it out and aimed where the sound was coming from - fractured the a$$holes skull, im not even sure if he survived but mum and bruvv just left sharpish after bruvv snapped his knife in two and left him bleeding and squealing in the grass - now thats a pair of balls for you blind and yet saved my mum im so proud of him!

garygemmell omg sounds like a proper survivalist family! Your younger brother is perhaps like daredevil with enhanced senses, so he’s probably more adept in looking after himself than the rest of us

hspexy Haha i am going to see him the marra so will tell him he is Daredevil he will be chuffed!

I think he is a bit lonely but he is of the mans man brigade and doesnt cry or show any feelings same as my dad = good way to be in some ways never heard my dad swear not once in my life - quite an amazing feat these days - how could i possibly be related eh haha!

Yeah although they do say its not true my bruvvs extra sensory perception and hearing is quite amazing but he has so much anger inside him god help anyone who crosses him he wont hesitate to finish them off - yeah well my dad was ex military and he started teaching us how to fight when I was 7 years old he was a real Glasgow hard man but a total gentleman - those are the sort of guys you want to avoid they seem really polite and mannerly even vulnerable to some but get them angry or say something wrong or hit a woman my dad would have snapped your arm in two in an instant. The number of lashings i used to get was legend but you know what i actually thanked him for them before he died and told him he had made me a better man than i would have been without his discipline!

My old biker pal Davey Mcgheachie though he was the most dangerous man i have ever met he was like a big podgy teddy bear but he has black belt master in karate, kendo, wakasashi and numerous other things as well as being a hells angel and a real Glasgow streetfighter from the old days - he is ten years older than me but took me down one night in a demo with a simple one handgrip punch to my throat i lost my legs and nearly passed out and that was "just a tap" so he said and I am a karate guy too and not exactly small!

Yeah some people you just cannot tell especially in Glasgow - its not called the Mean city for nothing!

garygemmell my husband got a baseball bat 3 weeks ago "just in case" as we're ground floor. I haven't slept properly since as i have nightmares of people bursting in the house. Well scary.

Your brother is well savvy.

gaelle0501 Dont fret your hubby is obviously smart but its down to how quickly you can use the weapon - a lot of people would hesitate and thats where you end up getting stabbed - tell him dont swing it, poke it straight into the nose of the attacker less swing time more damage a baseball bat to the end of the nose is a devastator and you can take two attackers out in the same time as it takes you to take one with a long swing and a poke cannot be blocked whereas a swing can - you can tell my dad taught us well haha

garygemmell hope your brother is well 😊 and everyone in Glasgow. Surprised there hasn’t been more films about the area, or at least a documentary (perhaps I’ll go up and shoot it one day 😂)

hspexy He had someone from NHS out yesterday to advise no one comes into the house so i arrived for the week yesterday afternoon with loads of expensive Sainsbury shopping (even bought a Fentimanns Cherry Cola lol) as i am his registered carer to be told to bog off!

He has numerous illnesses so is ten times more vulnerable to infection especially Shulgrins syndrome its nasty he has a permanent towel wrapped around his face i told him he looked like the Lone Ranger yesterday haha

Thanks for asking by the way very kind of you!

👍

He may be in the sheeeit but he is like me he is keeping on laughing - says if he dies could i make sure they just stick him in a cardboard box and throw him on a bonfire in the forest next to his house - Scottish sense of humour you see most people dont get it!

And of course an element of the old Scottish tightarse - cardboard coffin and bonfire to save money on a proper cremation haha he is worse than me mind you that is why he is a millionaire lol!

It'll be more realistic for a petrol fill up too.

There doesn't seem much point increasing the limit to prevent contamination unless they also stop the PIN being required at certain intervals or when the card is used in places it's not been used before, at which point the card becomes no longer contactless. It might reduce the number of times the card has to touch the machine and the number of times the user has to tap in their PIN but it does NOT eliminate it. They may just as well have left it the way it was and sanitized cards, machine and fingers for amounts over £30.

Very true. At present a lot of people are using self checkouts anyway, so they need to be properly cleaned after use or the contamination is endless

I can appreciate the merits of raising the limit during the current pandemic, but under more normal conditions I'd prefer if the level was set at £20-£25. When you don't have to think about the spread of viruses, I don't have an issue entering my password if I exceed the maximum amount. The more you are allowed to spend the greater the incentive for criminals to get involved.
