Coronavirus: Only Go to Your Job if You Cannot Work from Home - Hancock
In the News
People can go to work if they cannot do their work at home, the health secretary has said, amid confusion over the new coronavirus restrictions.
It comes after calls for clarity, including from construction workers, about Monday's wider shutdown measures.
Matt Hancock also said Tube services should be running "in full", after being asked about packed trains during Tuesday's morning commute.
The number of UK deaths rose to 422 on Tuesday, a rise of 87 in one day.
As it continues to ramp up its response to the number of people testing positive for the disease, the government is opening a new makeshift hospital at the ExCel exhibition centre in London.
The temporary Nightingale Hospital has been set up with help from the military and will have capacity for 4,000 patients.
Mr Hancock also appealed for 250,000 volunteers to help the NHS, and said more than 11,000 former medics had answered the government's call to return to the NHS. More than 24,000 final-year student nurses and medics will also join the health service.
'Employers have a duty'
Mr Hancock led Tuesday's daily Downing Street briefing - which saw reporters asking questions over video-link - after complaints that part of the government's strict new rules were confusing for workers.
The new measures , in place for at least three weeks, tell Britons to only leave home to go to work "where absolutely necessary" - but Mr Hancock later said those who cannot work from home should go to work "to keep the country running".
It's all a bit confusing, a friend of mine had a leaking radiator and had phoned a plumber yesterday however the plumber phoned her this morning and said that he couldn't come out as they weren't allowed to go into peoples houses, she phoned me in a panic as it was causing issues with the pressure to her boiler and affecting the hot water supply which is crucial when washing your hands as per the guidelines, she also has other medical conditions which means she needs hot running water at all times, I decided to go around and have fixed it for her while making sure we kept a couple of metres apart.
I don't think it's at all helped by the fact that this government just can't give a straight message about what to do. There are so many ifs and buts about staying home and going out.
Also heard some contradictory information about key workers. I heard that people that work in churches are key workers (why?!) but since heard that churches should be closed (makes sense).
MeestairChrees I don't think it helps that so many people are incredibly thick with very little common sense. It has to come to a point at which everybody has to be told what to do like children.
MeestairChrees All places of worship have to close, I know tat the Catholic Church/Chapel was stopping all mas ceremonies last week but were keeping the doors open for drop in prayers, whether that changed last night or not, I couldn't tell you.
Dennab Yes it is but dont count on it - i have posted over 500 deals 400 competitions and helped loads of folks with electronics info cooking advice and yet a few of the auld grannies dont like me or wont even give me a like regardless of whether my posts are helpful just because i crack a few rude jokes and tell the brutal truth - funny isnt it though when the ordure hits the fan they will all be bleating and asking for wolves like us to help them!
Even had a fannie complain because i use too many lols at the end of my sentences - even threatend to punch my lights out on a shopping forum and then told me he hoped my parents should die of coronavirus - did tell him they both died of terminal cancer last year but no apology or humility - that should tell you all you need to know about the quality of people in the UK not just on here but in the shops and life in general innnit lol lol lol
Now come to Slovakia its paradise - intelligent people with great food, say it as it is no political correctness and hardly any crime!
garygemmell It's funny you say that. I've just in the past half hour been told by someone they hope I'm struggling for air or something along those lines. All I posted was a bit of mild sarcasm and I get a personal attack like that.
I came on here for the deals a bit like HUKD but as you say, it's like walking on eggshells when you take the mick or criticise anyone.
pato yes I heard they needed to close, which is good, but also why I don't understand why church staff are meant to be key workers!
pato and completely agree with you on the PM thing. It pains me to even call him that.
Dennab I don't disagree, but the government could at least have an idea themselves - that would help too.
Everyone is on high alert at the moment. Not just in the UK, but everywhere. I think peeps need to be mindful as there is a lot of anxiety out there around the virus.
Picking fights and sarcasm right now I would advise should be kept to yourself.
I personally love living in the UK.
Xx
Ceebers I personally didn't pick a fight at all and was told by someone they hope I'd be gasping for air. No matter what you think of sarcasm, that is not acceptable. It upset my other half. Maybe open your mind a bit and realise that some people find sarcasm funny (Jimmy Carr seems to do alright).
I am as confused as everyone else is. I wish Gov can be a bit more clear and helpful. I know earning is important to live but you only can earn if you live.
