Croutons

Ask a Question

Is there anyone apart from myself having issues when I ask staff in the supermarkets if they have them? Nobody seems to know what it is.

You are talking to the wrong people! Croutons are not exactly unheard of....you sprinkle them on soup or over chicken Caesar salad.

GSM probably youngsters who don't know much about food. They don't seem to learn much at school or from mums anymore as most women go to work even if they don't need to, like being a housewife is somehow demeaning.

Ignored dot com. Anyway. They are out there. Check at bread stick bits or the sauce section.

Try in the sauce aisle near salad dressings I know Sainsbury’s also do their own fresh ones near the actual salads. We love them in salad or, if you have Prime these are good value cheaper than the shops

What a coincidence... have leftover bread and just googled 'can you freeze homemade croutons' as worried that making & freezing them will result in soggy bread when defrosted! Apparently not!

lynneh thanks! will give it a try and let you know! I 'roast' chickpeas in it too for salads and is so much quicker and easier than the oven!

FG280 omg. You’re a gem! I remember trying to do it in oven and ended up not good. But the concept was fab. I’ll maybe like chick peas again apart from the houmous variety.

lynneh they are nice when they are crunchy and 'nutty' easy to add different herbs and spices too when in the air fryer! Enjoy!

lynneh GSM I made them this morning in the air fryer. Used slightly stale bread, added some garlic and herbs and they literally took about 5 mins! Definitely recommend!

My mum makes her own when she has soup but she uses a certain bread to make them and she says they're lovely. I think the last time i saw crutons in a supermarket was on the morrisons salad bar 🤣
