Am I Being over Cynical?

Other

Image

I saw this on Facebook and my first thought was, being paid to learn? I have taken loads of courses over the years and have had to pay for all of them. Kids pay for uni etc so how come this ad is paying folk to do this course? And so generously. I am sure they will be fully subscribed...until the end of the course when they will take the money and run.

I could understand it being offered for free but will this encourage the wrong people into teaching?

Or maybe I am being fooled and it's a scam?

Honestly I would be careful with anything like this as I've seen courses that say all the good things you pay for them and in fact you can't use the Qualification anywhere

Leannexxx I am certainly not thinking for myself, too long in the tooth. Was just wondering why they are paying people to do it. That amount is more than what some people earn when pro rata over a month. Surely if you want to be a teacher you will do it regardless.

It does say you must already be studying for a masters degree in one of the 5 subjects L

Possibly the company are being sponsored by the government to enable them to offer it for free as there is a shortage of quality teachers

telmel I am quite ok if it's free courses but to be paid 1200+ for 15 days seemed a bit too generous to me. In some ways that is worse as they may do it for the money but then return to their original career path. Who knows, I have probably got it all wrong but I have never heard of anyone being paid to qualify, my poor granddaughter had to find £7k to become a teacher. She got her masters too.

Lynibis Yes, if it is government sponsored it seems too generous considering the governments stance on cuts and if not what do the company gain from this ?

The saying “if it sounds to be good to be true, it probably is” although I’m a born pessimist.

I do know that in this country we have a different approach to internships than the US. I believe these are paid here.

As Telmel has already said there is possibility of government involvement- a lot of training providers will be paid X to get people on the scheme. Government is also struggling to find teachers and wants people working.

If it were me, I would contact the department of education and make enquiries as to their knowledge of the provider and this course, as also if the content is not good enough I like to think would have details of training providers they do work with, if this one isn’t genuine.

A few years ago the construction industry was awash with training providers who could self assess and unfortunately there a lot of “qualified people” who don’t know what they’re doing purely because these providers got government money for getting people through the course thankfully for that industry self assessing has gone.

As always if your gut doesn’t like it, either investigate every avenue or walk away.

Gromit22 absolutely agree, but haven't the time to waste looking in to it as I am certainly not interested, but was curious. Good luck to those who go for it, just hope they stay the course.

It does seem to good to be true but these are also the subjects that they struggle to recruit teachers for and if you do the maths it's only £85 per day which isn't a massive amount of money.

jms19 omg I have never heard anyone say £85 per day isn't a massive amount, it's £425 per 5 day week, my pension is £740 per month. Even when I was working for council only one under the top job my monthly pay was £1427 and I worked weekends sometimes. I didn't dream people could get more for learning not working. I would feel rich on £1700 per month lol.

Lynibis I just meant if you figure it's an 8 hour day then that is about minimum wage, I know it's learning but there is also probably work involved.

I think the teaching profession needs more as so many teachers have left whether they became disillusioned or retired or lack of support.

Pjran yes it is nowadays a joyless occupation but unless they do something about those reasons for leaving nothing will change, no matter how many paid courses they offer. They may do the courses but then find employment elsewhere.

Lynibis There’s a report on the news why teachers are leaving. Majority left due to the violence including a knife!

Pjran how did we ever let it get this bad? Kids not allowed to be disciplined, allowing them to run riot. Why do adults think kids can self govern, most of us didn't when we were young.
