Daily Exercise, I Was a Bit Stupid Today

Other

I haven't been out since boxing day and after speaking to my granddaughter yesterday we arranged to both walk to a park halfway between us for a socially distant meet up.

Usually I would drive there and walk the park but as I haven't got a car at the mo I felt I would benefit from the extra walking. It took me 40 minutes to get there, we walked and talked for another 40 and I took a different walk home, took 35 minutes.

It was too cold to sit for more than 5 minutes, twice, so that was a walk of about 1 hour 45 minutes altogether and boy am I suffering now! It was silly to do that after being inactive for so long as I guess I will feel even worse tomorrow.

Do you do your daily exercise indoors or out, or not at all? Wish I hadn't been lazy for so long.

When you exercise well you damage your muscles and when your body repairs them it makes them slightly stronger so the more pain you get the more you benefit, next time you walk a similar amount it will be a bit easier. Stretching, repetition etc all damage the muscles.

It's why some people like to push themselves to create larger muscles more quickly.

As you increase the size of your muscles they are harder to damage so the growth of muscles slows which is why bodybuilders really have to push themselves and suffer to create such large muscles.

The body doesn't naturally create large muscles as they require energy to maintain requiring more calories per day which could effect your survival in the wild if food is sparse. Basically you have to show your body you need larger muscles by damaging them.

So if you have come back from a long walk exhausted with sore legs etc you have done yourself some good although it may not feel that way.

My granddaughter suggested less next time but I said I will maintain today's level as there is no point otherwise. I am hurting too much to repeat tomorrow so will go round the block then try to do the long one alternate days. Thanks for the info. Although I felt sore after I knew I had done my body good.

Ann1984 I am so lazy I am ashamed! I exercise in spurts but need to do regularly. I suppose my work kept me fit to a certain extent, lugging babies in cradles and getting on and out of mini busses but haven't worked since beginning of December. I hate my surroundings and am a long way from any nice greenery so that doesn't help.

Lynibis make the most of it before they ban exercising and colder weather hits. In the last lockdown we sold a treadmill to a lady around you age because she didn’t have nice area to walk have you thought of getting one of them peddler bikes where you can sit read a book but exercise same time

Ann1984 that is a good idea, multi tasking! I will have to look at finances as I am not getting paid now I have opted not to work during lockdown. They have paid out insurance for car but really need to put some toward it so I can get a nice one.

Lynibis I often do back to back exercise i.e. don't leave a rest day inbetween for the muscles to recover which is the wrong thing to do, sometimes I'm just trying to lose weight and like the endorphins of exercise I think.

I choose to walk as fast as I can for 30 minutes everyday , as I've only got little old mans legs I don't to far before I'm back again , I think I'm not pushing myself hard enough but I'm not 18 anymore ( at least I get to see the local pond and wildlife everyday ) Image

I haven't been doing any walks since lockdown .. i usually used to walk around the canal place near the city centre straight after work but may have to be careful as there are a lot of police patrolling around those ends and they may not believe that's my usual place to walk as opposed to closer to home.

I had treadmill off my other half for Christmas ( I dropped lots of hints) so I mostly use that at the moment. Will start exercising more outdoors as the weather warms up.

I did have one a long time ago but even then I was too lazy to use it. I must admit I am taking diet and exercise seriously now though so it may be time to think again. When funds allow I am sure I could find space if I really want to, I have a fairly big bedroom, just hope the neighbours don't hear it!

Lol. I have mine as pride of place in my living room. It's not like any visitors are going to see it.
