Damp and Getting Rid
Ask a Question
What is the best way to get rid of damp in the house. One minute they say open windows, now they are saying close windows. Which one is it ?
It is humidity what cause it. Water in the air...the best to get a machine which makes it in the right level in the air.
eyeballkerry also make sure you get some silica gel type packs to put in wardrobes or areas that aren't aired regularly. You can even get bags that you put on a hangar to place in amongst your clothes. You didn't say what size or capacity your dehumidifier is - perhaps you need a bigger model.
angemski Dehumidifier is the right size for my property but I will look into silica gel packs, cheers
eyeballkerry I found that if u switch on an electric heater it helps more...like dries out the air...
Assuming it's damp caused by condensation rather than rising damp, deal with the causes first and reduce the moisture in your home.
- Get an extractor fan in the bathroom if you don't have one.
- Avoid drying wet clothes inside on radiators etc if you can. Better to at least part dry them outside.
- Open some windows for at least a few minutes every day
- Wipe down any wet windows every morning with a towel or paper towel.

eyeballkerry A tip for damp cars in the winter is to fill a pair of women's tights with cat litter and put it under the passenger seat. That should also work in cupboards etc.
