Out of Date ??? No Worries

Latest Deals

I often post deals from approved foods who sell items that are close to or out of date. There have been several negative comments on my shared deals slaying them mainly due to the dates so I thought I’d share this interesting read

Food scientist says you CAN eat some foods after their sell-by dates and how to tell if items are still fresh

There's a lot of confusion regarding the dates on foodstuffs: if the date is "best before" or "display until" then there's a likelihood the food is OK for some time after those dates. But if the date is "use by" then it is ILLEGAL for a shop to sell it after that date.

There is nothing wrong with food past its "best before" date. The date is a ballpark around the time which it will be a bit more stale. I eat food 2 years out of date and nothings happened to me. People should use common sense but that's hard to come by these days.

B&M are good at selling short dated stock for 10p, (the term short dated refers to "Out Of Date" items but they will only sell then for 1 month then they'll bin it.

Ignore them! A lot of people will eat past the sell by date so really you are helping them save their penny's! Keep doing what you are doing and don't listen to the negativity 👍

I don’t know why people don’t just scroll past if a deal is not for them 🤷🏻‍♀️ Most people are aware that approved foods sells stuff past the sell by date so if that isn’t for you just move on!

Hi nipperjwb most of my meat I get has the yellow stickers on. Last week I got 4 steaks for 60p. And they were big. So what I done is cut them in half and freeze them. Meat is so dear now. Can't keep up with it. But this help. The meat I get go's straight in the freezer. My friends look in horror because I my meat this way. They cook a Sunday joint and it's in the bin next day. They do this with all there meals. I think what a wast and what meals I could do out of it. I try not to wast any thing. 🐥🐥

I cant bare wasted food. I used to run the night crew in a well known supermarket years ago and the amount of stuff we had to throw away was criminal. I wasnt even allowed to let the night staff take anything out of date home. It used to annoy the pants off me !

Hi nipperjwb. I don't under stand why they did not let you take it home . I wonder if any one went to the bin. And took some of it. I know some one that work in the super market and just like you she was not to give it to staff. But what she did was put in bags and put it in the bins. Boss checked that it went in the bin. When he went home and they finish work they went to the bin and got what they wanted. Boss never know because bins was emity be for he came in. 🤗🤗

nicolajaynehend we had cctv on the loading bay where the bins were. We had to put bleach on top of the disguarded food in the bin then lock the lid down with a padlock as the bosses didn’t like the homeless people in the bins looking for food !!!! This really did infuriate me. However the few rough sleepers that used to try loved it when I was running the shift as I used to put the bin bags on the loading bay at certain times and leave them for an hour before putting them in the bin 😊I just couldn’t bare it otherwise. Funnily enough when the time came to put the bags in the bins they were half empty 😊😊😊
