Can You Make a Decent Curry, I Can't Seem To!

Over the years have tried many recipes but have never found that one delicious dish that ticks all the boxes. I love curry but even my local Indian doesn't taste as good anymore. Mind you, I expect chefs have come and gone during the 20 years I have used it.
Need to buy the spices and use as much u like....and fresh ingredients are better, so good to have a mortal and grind the spices.
I think the spices are changed in the glass jars what supermarkets sells, but the Asian stores sells them cheaper in plastic sachets and they have different aromas.
It is really not about the recipe, but more about the ingredients used. It needs to have onion and garlic and fresh ginger and a lot of spices to taste great..
