Dining-out Post-Coronavirus Lockdown!

In the News

In what could be a precurser for how people will enjoy dining-out post-Coronavirus lockdown, this Dutch restaurant is serving customers in a unique, and safe, way.

The Mediamatic ETEN, a vegan-focused restaurant located in Amsterdam, are experimenting with how to best serve customers amid the current coronavirus climate with a collection of greenhouse dining rooms that respect social distancing measures and keep customers and staff safe.

Having just erected a greenhouse I found this rather surreal! I supposed that at least you won't have to listen to other people's chat whilst eating! Do you think it will catch on over here?

I quite like that! Other people are generally annoying and maybe they find me annoying so everybody's winning. I can think of something else rather Amsterdam specific that would be fun to consume in one of those things too.

We would like the privacy too. Mr T thought it would be ideal for us. As for the other, I don't think you would be able to see out if you did that? 🐞

tumblespots To be honest, last time I went there and did that, we were probably seeing things that weren't there anyway.

Coppa Club has been doing it since 2016. I really fancied a shopping trip that Christmas and taking a meal here (along the Thames) but it fell through last minute. I love the idea.

Brilliant, they are well on track to reopening earlier than most then! 🐞

they did something similar on the rooftop of John Lewis a few years ago, which would be cool

hspexy I could see myself in one of these - providing that the are sterilized between customers! 🐞

I have seen a similar thing done during winter. Groups have there own heated pod. But, this won't really work in most space deprived city restaurants. Plus, waiting staff will be in contact with everyone that comes in to dine. They could spread the virus to other diners and kitchen staff. The greenhouses are quite small, they would need to be thoroughly wiped down after each time they're used. Restaurants will need to find the right balance. If they go over the top with precautions or do next to nothing it may put people off from eating there.

That's a good point - I did just mention in the reply above about the cleaning of the pods. The transfer of the virus by serving staff could indeed be a huge problem and as you say - space is another issue 🐞

Cleanliness is the key,not some contained little hut to dine in.

Not really realistic, especially if someone with the virus dines in there,it's a no from me πŸ™‚ x

As we just talked about above it's also whether the waiting staff are transferring the virus too so I think we are all out! 🐞

I really don't know how the restaurants & pubs can continue if people have to be at least 2 metres apart, just as I don't know how schools can actually open! 🐞

I'm dreading the thought of returning my kids to school, one year 4/one year 9.

The schools themselves have been great supplying homework/phonecalls to see how the kids are doing(seniors).

I just can't see little ones coping well with the social distancing,my son is so lively,he will struggle sitting still in a sectioned area, time will tell πŸ™‚

There's talks about doing live lessons via the computer, for my daughters secondary school. It looks like they won't be returning till september,by then there might be a more organised plan in place,so confusing for everyone atm x

How can an overcrowded school cope with a 2 metre rule? It's impossible. I feel for those of you with children in schools (mine's grown up), I really can't see it working unless they do it all through the internet but then you lose all the interaction between children & other children and between children and their teachers and of course they need this to be able to communicate well. 🐞
