Disheartening When Topic Posted and Replies Ignored.

Feedback

I often take the time, as many others do, to reply with an answer, suggestion or advice to people posting topics on here. Sadly, some folk NEVER reply to any of the comments their topic generates and it does seem as if they can't be bothered.

It is not expected that they reply to every single comment but even one general one would show that they have at least read the replies rather than ignored everyone. After all it is chat and it would be nice to know what the original poster thought of your suggestions/help etc.

For me I loose track of the threads. I know I've posted somewhere but the forum moves fast and I don't know where I was. And also time. I pop in and out but don't have the time to keep posting again and again. Mostly I just can't remember which thread I last posted on.

I do tend to remember if I have written a lengthy reply giving the OP what they have asked for so it would be nice to have it acknowledged. After all, they receive a notification saying someone has replied so they must deliberately ignore it. I have looked back on lots of topics and have found lots of topic posters have never replied or acknowledged at all to anyone. I obviously don't expect replies to my replies every time but it would be nice if the poster replied to at least one person on a thread they create.

Lynibis Many aren't interested in "chatting" they just post a question that makes it look like a sporting event list: Butter vs Putty etc. Then go somewhere else to gather points.

In my opinion... they're best just ignored. Especially the resident female impersonator who posts "news items" from nearly five years ago. (If that isn't obvious points gathering - what is!)πŸ˜€

davidstockport I no longer post on the threads of those who never go back to the topic they have posted, nor do I comment on the versus type threads. It makes me feel as if I have wasted my time giving them a list of what they have asked for only to have it ignored. Not very polite.

Lynibis I had one notification the other day and it was a deal expired. Must of been something I posted last year. Apart from that I get no notifications. I don't think I get any replies on threads I start 😁 It's the reason why I don't tend to start many threads as no one joins in. LOL!

ShellyAnn Hi, do you mean you never get ANY notifications? Do you have your notifications switched on?. You should at the very least get some likes for deals you may post and I am sure someone must answer you occasionally as I am now. Maybe go to your profile and check?

ShellyAnn PS go to your duck icon and click, then go to settings. At the bottom there is a tick list where you can opt for whatever notifications you want to be notified of.

Lynibis I tend to ignore the threads of people who don't take any interest in their own topics either. It appears that in many cases everyone else ignores them too.

ShellyAnn if you read my replies can you let me know if you got notifications? I have been worrying about your comment as I would hate to think you don't get replies and need to know if you tried your settings? If you don't reply I must assume your notifications aren't on and don't know how to let you know except to maybe include Tom/Kelsey

Lynibis I don't post deals or comps often as I can't find any. Yes, my notifications are on but I don't seem to necessitate any LOL! I've no idea if I spelt that word right. Sorry I'm dyslexic.

ShellyAnn Glad you got that, although of course notifications don't come into play for deals and comps. Just needed to see that you got notifications of replies, likes etc.

Sorry Lynibis I'm guilty of this, get side tracked or see a glitch and don't reply straight away then my mind doesn't touch it till much later!

No you are not guilty of this MumOfThree as I often see your comments on chat. I don't think I am making myself very clear as I mean someone who posts a topic but then never goes back to it. Nor do they often take part in any chats. It is strange really as you can only post 2 topics per day for points but can do 5 comments for points.

Nice chatting with you lol!

I doubt you're one of the "post for points then ignore chat" referred to - you often respond to replies.

Lynibis ok I know what you mean people who just do it for points, it's a shame I quite like a chat! I like chatting with you

Some people only use the chat feature in order to gain points. Which is why we are seeing so many repeated subjects being posted as well as the boring 'this vs that' threads, which would be much better suited for Facebook.

Yes and I am sort of waging a one woman war by trying to point out that if you post a topic please be prepared to follow it and if people take the trouble to write then continue the chat. I am also trying to encourage debate rather than all the this versus that as once you have stated your preference, that's it!

It is nothing for me to write 20 or so comments in a day, not bothered about the points, just love to chat.

And I notice it was our humourless resident female impersonator who was the one who posted the second one, he's perhaps realised that no one wants to respond to "news items" that are nearly five years old. and hasn't got the imagination to think of anything original... but points are points however he gets them.πŸ˜€

Loved reading through this thread lol sure it is quite right that a lot of people post in chat just for the points I try not to post a topic unless I really have something to ask so hope I'm not on your hunting list Lyn lol

Ah bless you. I really don't mind what others do as they are obeying the rules and it is their choice. But I think there could be a fairer way of doing chat. I am just surprised there aren't responses more often as you get 20 points for each and can do 5 but only 2 topics. Maybe topic posting should be without reward but have them when you have maybe 3 replies! I dunno, I shall continue posting and chatting but avoid those I know won't ever answer.

Lynibis it does seem a very easy way to get points starting a new topic I think topic with replies could be a really interesting way to go!

I try and reply when I see I’ve had a response to a topic I’ve posted but sometimes I genuinely forget. But I do enjoy a good chat 😊

sometimes if the thread gets a bit heated between 2 other people I tend to back out as to me this is a light hearted way to spend some time.

As we all do nipperjwb but I have looked through a lot of threads and some people just post a topic and never ever return to it or respond to those who bother to reply. The other day I replied to 3 people at once as I was a bit busy and sometimes a reply does not need a response. It is very easy to tell a gatherer from a chatterer lol πŸ€”

I've really enjoyed reading this thread and agree with many points raised. I think the poster should return to acknowledge their own post. I now read many of the chat topics - avoid the obvious point gatherers and refuse to add to/like their threads - and despair at the level of duplicate and pointless topics. I am happy to chat and get involved in relevant topics but I refuse to answer subjects that ask stoopid! eg - what is your favourite toilet colour? I don't think points should be given for the actual post but given to the poster when there are a certain number of contributions. Good topic, Lynbis.

Most chat topics on here are better suited for things like Facebook.

Whereas others ask questions which can be easily answered by doing a quick Google search.

Thank you angemski, that is very kind of you. I do like to get a debate going but worry I may upset some people. I try to couch things in a polite way and some things just need to be said.πŸ™Š

RegularComper90 you are all so kind , thank you also. I am a thwarted writer and feel very deeply about the ills of the world, it affects me greatly and have had to stop reading the awful stories in the news. This site is not the place for the things I would love to write about but maybe when I finally stop work i could write a blog lol.

Sorry to resurrect this post again but I have counted 5 topics almost the same posted over the last day or two. Another topic has been repeated about 3 times. I won't say which ones but surely posters are aware they are repeating?

You're not the only one - I actually started to trawl backwards to pinpoint the duplicates but then thought it really wasn't worth my time. Grrrrr! spare me from serial point gatherers and the 'versus' muppets.

gaelle0501 The ones I don't take part in are the this versus that topics. All that is required is a 1 or 2 word answer and does not really inspire a good chat.

Those who keep repeating topics are obviously not even looking at previous ones and I notice they rarely comment on them, strange, as you get more points commenting. Either that or they are totally not interested in any other chats and are just 'gathering'.

If it's a topic a person doesn't have knowledge of or what have you, he/she just doesn't have anything to say.

I’ve noticed it too, but I remember a time when this chat section was barren...so it’s nice to see how popular it has become, even though it’s not being utilised the way the LD team have envisioned. But then again, it’s not something they ought to control too much, as that would also alienate new comers - you’ll find that the posts that have not had much effort put into them will not get many responses anyway

I totally agree hspexy that it mustn't be too rigid but the poster does not care if they get few or even no responses as they have got their 20 points for sticking down any old thing. It fills chat and pushes the more worthy topics down the line where they quickly disappear before many have had a chance to read or comment. I am constantly amazed at how many do respond to repeats and versus topics lol. Every thing is slow to start and takes time to build and I think there are still loads of members who aren't even aware of the chat section.
