Disney Princess Wearing Glasses
In the News
In the news yesterday a young girl has written a book about a Disney Princess wearing glasses this was because no Disney Princesses wear glasses. What would you add to a character if you were writing a story?
Cinderella had a dog called Bruno, Ariel had a horse called Diamond and Pocahontas had a raccoon called Meeko.
I watched Disney growing up and for me it wasn't about why didn't one of them look like me, instead I watched them and thought I want to be like that when I'm older; strong, determined, resilient, persistent, curious, kind, someone who challenges other people opinions and perceptions, someone who tries to do their best, who fights for what they believe in, someone who changes things they don't like.
I always saw them as positive characters to look up to, it never bothered me that they didn't look like me.
I think they need to be positive role models who show girls they can be anything they want to be.
I think it is great that she has written a book about a Doaney princess with glasses. Maybe there could be ones about disabled princesses, princesses with health conditions etc, they could base them on real life inspirational women.
MrsCraig Your reply is exactly what I wanted to type out . You have put it very well I agree.
The princesses don’t wear hearing aids , they are not in the wheelchairs or without limbs ,nor blind, they are cartoons for kids to believe in beautiful and magical life, enough bad things happening in real life and Disney takes everyone even adults to magical place , this is why they are all perfect . Don’t think there is a need for any disabilities in disney world . We went to Disney in Orlando last year and it’s just a different world , and I know many parents take their disable children there to forget about problems for a bit . Don’t see the need of disney princesses wearing glasses or whatever .
loveglitches I would agree with you as we would be here all day trying to cover all types of person. Not that I’m discriminating but keep them the way they are.
LeighReidAtanas I agree Disney represents a magical world with amazing characters and escapism . Although Walt Disney himself wasn't all good and very controversial in many ways
Well as most Disney princesses live in a fantasy world and in what we would deem far back in history , I am not surprised they do not wear glasses. They are never plain either and to all intents and purposes they are perfection, also not real life!
Why shouldn't a princess wear glasses it makes them more relatable.
I'm a shallow person my favourite princess is Belle because she was the first princess to have brown hair. My daughters favourite is also Belle, but for other reasons, she's independent, doesn't conform to society and gets given library.
