Diwali Coming Soon!!! Have You Heard about It

Ask a Question

Diwali on 14th November

Diwali is called the Festival of Lights and is celebrated to honor Rama-chandra, the seventh avatar (incarnation of the god Vishnu). It is believed that on this day Rama returned to his people after 14 years of exile during which he fought and won a battle against the demons and the demon king, Ravana.

It is a shame for those of the Hindu faith who won’t be able to celebrate in the same way this year. The festival is a celebration of the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance - something we could all do with at the moment.

JyotiAgarwal that is such a shame. Your family just want you to be safe. Hopefully you will be able to celebrate next year with them.

I've been to the Diwali celebration in Trafalgar Square a number of times. Unfortunately, due to current events it's going virtual this year, which isn't great if you like going for the food.

I was surprised to see this question in 2020 as I thought that the UK was a lot more multicultural today with children being taught about other religions.

I was only thinking about it the other day as I could hear fireworks, but know it wasn't bonfire night so looked up when Diwali was.

Hopefully you will be able to celebrate with your friends and family virtually. Take Care.
