DIY Christmas Gift Ideas

Ask a Question

Does anyone have any good ideas for Christmas gifts that you could partially make yourself? Want to get in the crafty ‘Christmas spirit’ and any ideas would be great! Thanks!

It sounds dreadful of me but the only home made gifts I would appreciate would be the kind you can eat. Hand made gifts, whilst I can appreciate the love and effort, are usually a bit naff.

I better get the mixer out and start baking then! I’m rubbish at art so just want to partially make things! Theme of the Secret Santa this year is Homemade which is hellish for me, but I’ll hopefully get some inspiration from somewhere or someone!🤞

Han542 Can you knit ? Bobble hat , willy warmer , scarf etc are quite easy to do with one ball of wool (depending on the size of the willy obviously )!

Golfforall Absolutely hopeless at it! My Grandma tried to teach me how to when I was growing up but deemed me a lost cause!

Lynibis Have tried to make fudge in the past but I had to chew on it for about 10 minutes until I gave up and spat it out! Starting to think this whole DIY idea might not be for me!😂

397 g Condensed Milk (one tin)

600 g Chocolate (300g Dark/Milk)

75 g Icing Sugar

125 ml Baileys

Line a tin with parchment paper – I use a 7×10″ Brownie Tin as it makes a nice depth of fudge!

Put the Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, and Condensed Milk into a heavy based saucepan – melt on a low heat, stirring often so that the chocolate doesn’t catch on the bottom and burn and so that all the ingredients mix together well. Or melt the two chocolates together carefully in the microwave/double boiler, and then add in the Condensed Milk and mix well till smooth.

Once melted, tip in the baileys and combine well with a bit of beating. Add in the icing sugar and combine well again, it might take a bit of beating, but its worth it!

Pour into the tin and smooth over the mixture. Store in the fridge for at least 5-6 hours (Or preferably overnight) to set!

Once set – remove from the tin and cut into the squares – I cut my tray into small squares of fudge, about 1inch in size! Return to the fridge for another couple of hours to finish setting if its still a little soft– ENJOY!

Han542 Think laterally then - buy some bun cases , find a pretty box and ribbon - buy some fancy buns from your local supermarket remove from packaging , place in your own bun cases and box - job done !

Same could be applied to "home made sweets "(fudge included) or biscuits . Just smile modestly when asked how you made such lovely buns /sweets/ biscuits .

Christmas bakes perhaps? Home made fudge or cookies or mince pies? Have a look on Pinterest for some good ideas 🙂

Think that’s what I’m going to go for! Make a wee pamper hamper and pop some fudge in it! Done!

I was going to suggest fudge but Lynibis has even come up with a recipe - always best to follow a tried and trusted recommend because they can be 'grainy'.

Chocolate Brazil nuts are really easy to do. Buy the nuts from the cooking section in the supermarket or put them in your next delivery order together with the supermarket brand's own milk or dark chocolate. Melt chocolate gently either in bain marie or microwave (very gently or will burn and be useless!)

Drop some nuts into the mix, stir and fish them out using a teaspoon and place on a piece of parchment paper to set. Then pack into cellophane bags and label. You get a lot more chocolate on your finished nut than anything you could buy.

Pot pourri drawer fresheners are also easy - buy ready prepped filler/lavender and put into organza bags. Great to put on the hooks of hangers on woollen items to keep moths away.

Make wine glass charm sets - easy with minimal effort and tools.
