Do you maybe live in a rural area? I live in London and cinemas are always packed. I have an unlimited card as well and we go pretty much every weekend and love seeing new films
Our local Vue outpriced itself and went drastically downhill and became very quiet.
About two years ago thou they revamped the cinema put in new reclining leather seats in every screen and charged a flat fee of £5 per film anyday anytime, they are now really busy . And the best thing is you can still use Meerkat codes on a Tuesday and Wednesday and get two seats for just £5 which is great value in my opinion
By contrast Cineworld in the next town is still trying to charge upto £11 per person to watch a film. we no longer go there thou.
Yes I love going to cinema and we go at least once a month. Recently saw Dumbo, Aladdin and Late Night. I’m sure numbers are down for family outings to see a movie due to the high cost. I do sign up to see preview movies before they are released although all the tickets get claimed quickly often only 50% people turn up.
cinemas are not as busy as they used to be for sure, many people download movies at home i think.. we go to most of the new kids movie releases, we now have to bring our own sweets etc as the cinema prices are crazy for these things
I very rarely take my eldest granddaughter to the cinema but apart from that i dont go. I cant stand the feeling of being enclosed in darkness and its usually a waste of money cuz as soon as the film starts im asleep !!! I think my brain is conditioned to sleep at the start of a film !!!!!
Its because of the price and the fact there are so many ways to watch the films for free illegally. Years ago i would go at least once a month but Last time i went to the cinema to watch a 3d film it cost my £50 to get in for 2 adults and 2 kids, then we had snacks to go in and mcdonalds when we left which was another £50. Spending £100+ on a trip to the cinema and some fast food (not even in a proper restaurant) is ridiculous. We do have 2 local theatres in our town though and they charge £15 for a family of 4 but they only show films a few times a fortnight and their films that have been in other cinemas for months. Their also really uncomfy and outdated. We went last year to watch Planet of the Apes and i ended up sitting on the floor on my coat
I would sooner be 6 months behind with new releases than pay £24 for two tickets, and that is with oap discount! I have a nice tv with decent surround sound and the DVD costs around £12 no matter how many watch.
I don't think I am mean but if you also have a drink and/or some food you can easily get through £50.
I have to reluctantly agree with you again (I will be accused of being a sycophant ) I honestly don't think it's an age thing - I believe the same enjoyment could be had with family or friends and some food and drink. The last time I went I was aggravated by someone bracing their feet, continually, against the back of my chair and answering texts and I thought 'this is an overpriced experience'. That, together with the itchiness I was getting from the seat and the food crunching from behind totally finished me off. A £65 punishment.
Yes I still enjoy going to the cinema. It a more immersive experience and should have fewer distractions than watching something at home - unless there are some disruptive people in the auditorium.
Last time i went was to watch avengers endgame, i only go to watch the big movie as its a good day out
I rarely go to the cinema but I would love to see the new Terminator movie at the cinema when it comes out.
