Does Anyone Have a Stone Bath?

Ask a Question

Does anyone have a stone bath. We are thinking of having one but they are really expensive. I'm just wondering how they compare to acrylic.

I've read cast iron can take a while to get warm and are not really recommended.

Hi rararachel I have cast iron bath and don't find it takes long to warm up. And it a very large one I got. And would not be with out it. I think it keeps the water much hotter for longer. 🤗

Oh really? That's interesting, do you find it feels cold when you first get in? I love some of the freestanding cast iron slipper baths.

rararachel no its lovely and hot and like I said be for the water stays hotter for longer. Mine has the legs. My friend just got the normal bath and she said that bath water turns cold a lot quicker then my bath. Because one day she took a bath in mine she loved it. Because she was taking a long time I though she had fell down the pulling hole. I live on a farm and she got muddy thats why she had to have a bath. 🤗

rararachel I had a large cast iron bath, early 80's it was a deliberate purchase as we didn't want acrylic. It never seemed to be cold when you first got in and the water did stay hot for longer (I now have an acrylic one and water never seems warm). I couldn't have a stone bath as all I'd ever see would be a stone farm trough, sorry I'm a country gal.

I may have to rethink cast iron then. I'm a country gal too and remember my dad having a stone trough for the cows. The stone baths I've seen are very modern though.

rararachel If you go for stone may be worth looking into what resin they mix the stone with in-case there are allergies in the family.

lilyflower never thought of this. Cast Iron is cheaper than stone but I need to do some research. The other issue with stone is the weight. We are in a bungalow so there is no risk of it falling through the ceiling but in terms of practical issues, even just getting it delivered could be problematic.

Cast iron does seem a good option potentially though they don't seem to have as modern designs. I need to go and test some baths for comfort!

Buy an acrylic one and spend the money you save on ten year's worth of 'Matey'.

I’ve only tried stone baths on holiday where they have natural spring water running through. It does feel really nice, but obviously they’re specifically using the stone material to enhance the natural minerals of the water. The stone keeps the heat of the water longer
