Does Anyone like Truffles?
Ask a Question
Not the chocolate variety
The distinctive flavour of the truffle is something I quite like, but others seem to think it’s too pungent for their tastebuds
I tend to get the truffle flavoured crisps when on offer, and sometimes I treat myself to the truffle cheese they have in Waitrose - again, preferably when I can get a discount on it
Yes, but I've rarely had the real thing. I like truffle oil and other flavoured products. A quick search came up with 10 restaurants with truffle dishes. The Truffle Pudding at the bottom sounds really delicious - https://sheerluxe.com/2019/11/04/10-best-truffle-dishes-london
That does sound yummy! I imagine that I’ve only had the lower graded stuff, as I have not paid too much for it, so I’m willing to go by recommendations for a better quality truffle experience
I must admit I have never tried them. Saw a programme recently and was shocked at how expensive they are and the lengths people go to in order to harvest them.
Yes it’s definitely well sought after. I watched a video where they said they had some flown over at a premium price. The lengths people go to get things lol
My partner is obsessed with the truffle fries from Prezzo... I think they smell disgusting, so that’s enough to put me off!
It definitely has a pungent smell, and can be an acquired taste. I’ve yet to try them from prezzo though. I tried them in some pubs and GBK, and they were ok
I immediately thought of chocolates not the truffles you’re referring to! Yes I love the choc ones but the others I just truffle oil drizzled on dishes.
I've had truffle flavour things, which I love, but never actually had truffles I don't think, unfortunately. Must try them at some point!
I tried some products with truffles but it was not a wow for me....I think porchini mushrooms have better flavor...
i think I also prefer the taste and flavours of porchini also - I do like truffles, but mushrooms in general are more suited to my palate
I was hoping you meant the chocolate ones I've never tried the other ones, do they taste like mushrooms?
Lol I would say they’re a lot more pungent and earthier tasting than mushrooms...definitely a marmite kind of thing
KirstyWaddell lol yes, a love or hate scenario because of the strong flavour. Some people don’t like the smell. Around this time last year, both M&S and Kettle Chips brought out truffle flavoured crisps for the Xmas period, which is worth trying as it won't cost a lost try. I hope they do it again this year
KirstyWaddell tbh the percentage of truffle oil used is tiny, perhaps only 0.1%, but the flavour is distinctly truffle-like. It’s probably not as pungent as the higher graded, expensive truffles, but the crisps is a good intro to the truffle flavour
