How Does Everyone Do Their Bit to save the Environment?
In the News
So I'm seeing some great deals being shared but there's the odd one or two that make me think wow no! This is not good for our environment and the battle to cut down on single use plastics. For example I saw someone share about cheap baby wipes (now don't shoot me I know they are essential for those with babies). Wipes get blocked in our sewers and end up in oceans where they cannot degrade. How about swap for diy versions where you can soak a roll of kitchen roll in water and add aloe Vera or essential oils? Let me know your ideas! We only have one planet โค
Whilst I am perfectly aware we only have one planet most mothers don't have time to make our own baby wipes! I know I certainly don't! There are reusable ones that you can buy instead which aren't too expensive, as long as you are organised enough to make sure you always have some washed and dried. The same can be said for nappies. Also not everywhere will recycle kitchen roll paper and if it has oils on it, then it is a definite no, so a diy version might not actually be better.
I recycle as much as I can, don't waste food, use as little water as possible, only buy clothes when necessary.
Sorry if this comes across bluntly..
You apparently care about the environment and the sea life etc. But you were willing to put a fish in a so called 'fish tank' that not only was the water area just 15cm long (not even suitable for a tadpole, never mind a japanese fighting fish) but it was also made out of solid plastic!!
The person that posted that isn't on this thread are they? Totally get where you are coming from though
elise not the original poster of the tank, no hun.. but the poster of this topic commented about the tank, it's about half way down the linked thread.
Maybe the lady cares about the environment because of her childrens future and polution of the sea because it goes into the food chain or has an impact on our future food stocks etc but isnt an animal lover. My friend does all her recycling and bit for the environment but she has no affection whatsoever for animals. Clearly anyone who would put any fish in that tank cant care about animals as thats tiny
BBT that maybe so, but she's talking about plastic and that 'tank' is a great chunk of plastic! Lol.
LittleLisaMarie just read it. Get even more why you said it now. Good job I didn't see the original post, though I may have been banned afterwards. I bite my tongue so much on here as it is, but some things I won't shut up about
elise that's what I'm like most the time, I must have been having a good day that day.
I'm surprised I haven't been banned off her either, especially after someone posted a charity teddy bear for grieving mothers as a 'freebie' I went absolutely mental on that post.
LittleLisaMarie I didn't see that post but that is absolutely ridiculous! I am disgusted by that! I'm glad you went mental on that post!
And totally agree with you about your comment about the fish tank!
LittleLisaMarie OK my blood is now boiling. I'm generally an a***hole but do reign it in when I can, I just take it out on the guys at work instead. There doesn't seem to be any filters on what people say on here, they just think 'ooh points, let's post tosh to earn them' without any consideration to people's feelings and as much as it pains me, it's the ones that frequent chat that seem to be the worst but if you say anything you get called a bully. To think that these people are allowed to breed too!
MrsCraig I mean fair play to the admin/mods they took that teddy bear post off pretty quickly, I reported it and it was gone within 15 minutes or so.
LittleLisaMarie good! Glad it got taken down! I would have reported it too if I had seen it. So insensitive, plus how did someone think that it was appropriate to do that?
elise I agree, some people are 1000% only here for the points.. I've seen some absolutely terrible posts on here, like 'freebies' with ยฃ5 p&p charges.. I'm sorry but that's not a freebie!
I've seen someone post 20p tins of beans from morrisons! Like wtf, they are that price in any other supermarket!!..
As long as they are racking their points up they don't give a crap what they post.
MrsCraig all for the sake of 10 points.. shows some people really are desperate for a few points on here.
LittleLisaMarie judging by my profile rundown I'm definitely not here for the points, don't even like 5 things a day
elise most of my likes went to Pete's deals before he stopped posting here..
I struggle to find things to like these days, if I don't find anything worth liking, I don't bother..
I'm just here to chat really (while my boyfriends on the ps4 lol)
And call out the terrible 'deal' posters.
LittleLisaMarie you're doing a bloody good job I hadn't noticed Pete wasn't posting, haven't been about much recently, I spend more time on chat too, when I'm not saving the environment obviously
LittleLisaMarie Note to self - read everything then your comment will be relevant
LittleLisaMarie I've been noticing that more and more! I'm definitely not here for the points! If I see a deal or freebie then I will post it but I'm here for the chat section.
elise I do like the chat section, some of the topics are clearly point gathering but i ignore those ones lol. Always from the same usual suspects that never reply.
angemski I thought your comment was spot on! Why exactly are people putting wipes down the toilet?
LittleLisaMarie there's a few that do reply that I wish were only here for the points
MrsCraig I've noticed a lot over the last couple of weeks or so.. Once you've seen one, you notice them all lol.
I could name the most obvious ones but I'm honestly not here to try and cause trouble.. sometimes I can't just bite my tongue though haha.
LittleLisaMarie I really enjoy the chat section and month by month I realise who I share similar attitudes with. (although I try not to - I will regularly join in a chat of someone I've connected with) I like chatting with different people of varying ages and opinions. elise I will ALWAYS answer.....sorry.
angemski I only noticed the chat section a couple of months ago. but yeah, I love to join in on the chats too. Just a shame that some of the posters don't even have any interest in the replies.. as long as they got their 20 points, they are happy.
LittleLisaMarie I've noticed them the last few weeks too. I see some of them and think how is that a deal? I don't tend to get involved in any disputes as I can't be bothered with them.
MrsCraig neither do I usually hun, unless I'm having a rant moment. Then I usually just speak my mind all at once lol.
LittleLisaMarie I got involved once, I wasn't rude or offensive, left a comment based on what I had observed as a teacher as the post was about teenagers behaviour. I got a really nasty, rude and offensive comment back. Since then I have not bothered. I don't mind people disagreeing with me and having different opinions, but this comment was just insulting. I don't mind people ranting about something, I don't mind being told I'm wrong, but I think there is a way to do it. Instead I just saw what I think to the phone screen when I see what has been said. Makes me feel better and avoids an argument!
MrsCraig some people are so arrogant on here. I know I can't keep my mouth shut sometimes lol, but I never jump straight down people's throats. If someone contradicts themselves or whatever I'll just point it out to them, like the original poster of this thread.
She's 'preaching' about the environment, yet she was going to get one of those 'so called' plastic fish tanks and stick a tropical fish in there lol!
Does she want to save the sea life or kill it? I'm really not sure.
LittleLisaMarie I agree. You simply pointed out that the poster was contradicting themselves. Some people really do jump down people's throats for no reason.
MrsCraig I've seen it a few times on here myself too.. even on the facebook group, the amount of arguments I've seen on there lol.
LittleLisaMarie oh the facebook group!! I have stopped looking on it as there were so many arguments and I just don't have the time for it!
I thought it was a lot bigger and after seeing comments I didn't buy one in the end if that makes you happy. Bit weird you went to go find an old post just to prove a point though. Used to work in a fish shop and seen japs in small tanks hence why I thought it would be ok. The things is that we are all still learning to be better but mistakes will still happen. Educate others rather than have a go at them
hollymc nope, I just remembered your name from that post.. people wanted to know why I made the comment so I done an easy search for 'fish tank' it wasn't hard to find.
I just thought it was funny that you made a post about caring about the environment but you 'were' (at the time) saying you were going to buy a mini plastic box with no means of filtration, heat or space to put a tropical fish in.
I've also worked in a pet shop in the past and they have no animal welfare at all when it comes to fish.
Pet shops overstock their tanks because of sales and profit, they have minimum space and decor as they need their customers to see what they're buying. It is not healthy for the fish to live like that.
Sorry if I came across harsh that day, I was just annoyed that things like that were allowed to be sold. I made the comments because there was a lot of people 'liking' the post, I didn't want people to read your comment and think it was perfectly fine to put a living thing in that little box.
Never take plastic bags for my weekly shop, use cardboard boxes in store instead. Bin no food and post on Olio app and lets locals collect
i always try to recycle.. bringing my own bag when i go shop.. walk as much as i can, exercise and save gas esp if just nearby. less use of plastics, buying large sizes of detergents; washing liquids; oil and just do refills... iron once..etc
My first question is - why are baby wipes being put down the toilet? Perhaps you should lobby the manufacturers to be more honest in their advertising. Flushable doesn't mean degradeable. I would be interested to know if you have any children and whether or not you have tried your own idea? I see your solution having too many cons.
I don't know why they are being flushed but I watched a TV program about the London sewers and how often they're unclogging it with mainly wipes being the problem.
I don't have children and used to use face wipes but now I use a camomile balm from body shop and a warm flannel to take my make up off at night.
I always put paper, cardboard and plastic in the recycling bag. I do mot throw anything away that can be recycled.
I do try and save plastic bottles and try to use recycled bottles. The programme that was on last year about plastic in our oceans quite upset me. Those poor animals suffering.
Plastic Straws are a hot topic at the moment, we cant possible bring them back knowing he damage they do, next the lids will have to go. Untill then, me and my little boy love our telescopic stainless steel straws, we got them from www.exstrawvagant.co.uk enjoy doing your bit to help!
