Dogs Barking

Do you mind an occasional dog bark and do you think that it’s antisocial behaviour?
The odd bark is ok normally but when a dog is constantly barking all day and night and keeps you awake or wakes you up isn’t really ok
agree we have 2 pups in training who the odd time do a random bark perhaps 3-4 per day and are silent through the night and otherwise and we have a had a complaint through our door...
I have a dog. She only barks if someone knocks on the door or someone she doesn't recognise walks past the fence. It is a protective thing for her, so is alerting us to what she thinks is danger. There are a few dogs in my neighbourhood but you only hear them occasionally. I think the only time it is anti social is if it is late at night and keeping you awake or if the dog is aggressive.
Dogs bark, it is what they do.
I don't mind an occasional dog bark. What I don't like are those owners who think it's OK to leave a dog alone for more than 4 hours. It isn't, it's cruel. So says the RSPCA, Battersea Dogs Home, vets and many more. Sadly many owners will try to self justify their actions saying their dogs are OK alone for long periods. Frankly they shouldn't have got one in the first place if they can't be there to look after it.
Dogs left alone for for long periods, whether inside or outside become bored or sad and bark because they are unhappy.
Dogs with separation anxiety often bark excessively when left alone. They also usually exhibit other symptoms as well, such as pacing, destructiveness, depression, and inappropriate elimination. Compulsive barkers will bark just to hear the sound of their voices. They often make repetitive movements as well, such as running in circles or along a fence.

Depends on the situation. For instance if my neighbours had recently got a new dog & it was barking often, I would grin & bare it for a short time while the dog settled into his new home / surroundings. I would expect it not to last tho & the behaviour to be addressed. My dog barks when someone knocks at our door & when he hears OHs van pulling up outside. Hard to avoid dogs barking 100% but constant barking is a behavioral problem that needs attention asap.

RiannonWood When we first got our smooch we had a similar situation with a particular (animal hater) neighbour over back complaining for a short period. I know a incessant dog barking is hellishly annoying but dogs do need some time to adjust to new environments. Congrats on the new pups & good luck with the training
I agree with the comments here that tolerance is needed when a dog settles in a new home or they bark as a warning of someone intruding on their patch. There is a dog approximately 20 houses from us and we can just about hear it constantly barking but it isn't close enough to us so we can ignore it - it must be driving the immediate neighbours absolutely insane and I really have the greatest sympathy for them. (dog left alone during the day)
My dogs bark at people walking by, birds in their airspace and the postie. They're not anti social just alert. We had a-holes for neighbours and they tormented our dogs, threw things at them, mimicked their behaviour, banged on walls and have even threatened to poison them with laxatives. This resulted in one getting separation anxiety, but both are very aware of their surroundings. Both me and my husband have now adjusted our jobs so they're never left for too long and they are so much better now the awful neighbours have moved, it was hard to witness and we did manage to get an ASBO on our neighbours. They're subsequently excellent guard dogs because they hear everything
I dont mind them barking occasionally, i have dogs and they bark if someone knocks or comes in the house or if someone walk past the garden gate if their outside. But dogs being left in the garden to bark all day and night is so annoying. I dont understand why people have a dog for it to live outside.
This has reminded me of the situation with my mother in law. My mother in law has 3 dogs, all very well behaved. They only bark when they see my father in law returning from work and other visitors that they recognise. Their neighbour complained about the noise and got the council involved. The neighbour had to record when the dogs were barking and prove it was impacting on his life. The council determined that the dogs were not causing a noise issue. The neighbour was unhappy with my mother in law over something else and used the dogs to get revenge.
