Drinking on flights...and Drinking a Lot on Flights

In the News

Just read about another incident of drunk passengers on a Ryanair flight https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6847197/Passengers-cheer-drunk-woman-dragged-Ryanair-flight-causing-mayhem.html

I don’t mind a drink or 2 before (or during) a flight, as it can set you up for the holiday spirit. However, there are those who love to get wasted before a flight, and then when you are trapped on a plane with those people, it can get pretty uncomfortable. I know the airports and airlines have to make money, but surely the increased incidents on planes can prove just as costly?

I do not drink...I think there should be a limit. it can be dangerous on planes if someone goes crazy...

I think a ban would be safer, as limits are hard to monitor, and everyone has different alcohol tolerance levels. It’s a shame, as it’s always a few that spoils it for everyone

Personally, I've not experienced anyone being too unruly from alcohol consumption on a flight. I usually end up sitting in front of crying children. Anyone who causes disruption due to intoxication should be banned by the airline. Then have an automatic black mark placed on their passport information preventing them from buying and consuming alcohol in airports and flights with other carriers.

Same here, as I tend to avoid the discount carriers that tend to have the people who cause such disruptions- I guess they get the flights so cheap, they have more money to spend on booze

I don't understand why anyone NEEDS to drink on any flight. If you can't go without alcohol for the duration of even a long haul flight there is something very wrong.

I agree in the main, thou I think it's perfectly reasonable for someone to have a drink with a meal if they wish on longer flights.

I am always amazed thou when I go to the Airport for an early morning flight and people are in the bars at 06.00am before their flights downing alcohol, Alcohol for immediate consumption at airports and on planes should be banned, thou as it's a big money spinner for the airlines it's unlikely to happen.

I only know if a select few who have a drink to calm their nerves, as they hate flying. But they’re not the type to go mental, as they prefer to just shut their eyes to wait for it to be over. Definitely no need to drink, as I have read that due to the altitudes, you will feel it more too

I don't drink. I did when I was younger but even then it would be one drink on a very rare night out or a birthday. Last drink I had was at a friends wedding last February and that was only because she had paid for it and I felt bad not having it. Otherwise I couldn't tell you the last time I had a drink, probably my own wedding 4 years ago!

I don't see the appeal of drinking at the airport or on a plane. You don't need alcohol to enjoy your trip. I think there should be a limit. Eg one drink at the bar in the airport and one on the plane.

I dont drink often so i dont understand why people need to drink at the airport or on the plane. Can their celebration not wait until they arrive? Then again the airport is serving at silly hours to make the money. Personally i wouldnt be keen on drinking before and during a flight - imagine something happened and you had to try and follow emergency procedure half cut 🙈

The greedy airports are to blame for the predicament that is growing. Personally, I used to think it was a novelty to have a G&T on a flight until I realised that altitude and just one drink left me feeling less than fresh to start my hols. I think the bars should be shut down and only non-alcoholic beverages be made the one option. (before I'm judged, I enjoy a regular tipple 😜 )

Lol tbh I agree, even though I do like having a bevvy or two to get into the holiday mood. Definitely a safer option for all if no alcohol was served To passengers before a flight
