Driverless Cars and Buses
Ask a Question
Would you be a passenger in a driverless vehicle?
How about being a passenger in a driverless airplane?
Arguably the auto-pilot function could be said to be half way there already. However, there’s something reassuring about knowing there is a fully trained and responsible human there too should anything unexpected happen.
HappyTravels Really don’t think I would like being a passenger in a driverless vehicle. Feel the technology is not refined to human actions/reactions. I agree that it’s reassuring to know there’s a pilot who is ultimately in control of a plane.
BlueEyesX These already exist the Docklands Light Railway don't have drivers.
But I agree I would like there to be someone over seeing the computer

I remember taking a ride on that and I assumed it was being controlled by someone as it worked as it should.
However, a car? I'll drive myself than trust a computer. beccatavender
Correct me if I'm wrong, 737 MAX went down because the computer thought it knew better than the pilot himself?
Even after being tuned/tweaked I still don't trust that Boeing. BlueEyesX
If you'd risk your life being driven by a driverless car/bus, that's your call.
There are bad human drivers and adding driverless vehicles won't help it. Either learn to drive or go with sensible choices.
Not only would I not want to be a passenger in a driverless vehicle but the larger question is that if these vehicles are on the road we are all going to be affected by them whether we like it or not. Who wants to be shunted, or worse, by a robot computer driven car that has a mind of it's own. These things aren't infallible. Remember iRobot!
Airplanes pretty much do drive themselves. But if there was no one at all sitting there it would be a no for me. Same with a vehicle. I feel there still should be a human there.
Just incase of software failure etc also it’s nice to have people working and not robots,
rossruby1977 yes, tricky one. Given the choice, I don’t think any of us would trust a driverless car or bus, but we’re already half way there with a plane. I like the fact that there is still a pilot sitting there in the event something happens and they can override auto-pilot.
Love, love, love the Tesla, but I'd never agree to being driven by a driverless car.
