Driving Instructor Shortage
Ask a Question
Is there a driving instructor shortage. I've tried 3 local ones and got 2 too busy and 1 put on waiting list.
I really need a way to quickly find out who is available and recommended any ideas
Edit.
Great news. Just booked a lesson for next week
My friends husband is a driving instructor. It is people couldn't do driving tests because of covid, so there is a back log and now everyone is trying to take their tests so they are helping the pupils who should have already taken their tests as well as taking on new pupils. He is booked up for months.
If you have fb, ask on a local page if anyone can recommend an instructor but you might need to wait a few weeks before they have spaces.
Imnotcheap he has had to tell people he can't take them for 3 months as he is so busy. Hopefully you find someone and don't have to wait too long
MrsCraig hopefully Ideally I want her to pass before she goes to university in September. She would have learned earlier but waited long time for provisional to come through
Imnotcheap the DVLA had issues too, I waited 12 weeks for a new license to come through when I moved, took them 6 months to issue my mum with a new one.
She should be able to pass by then, as long as she can take the test as they are backed up too.
I believe instructors everywhere are still struggling with the backlog after covid. My son was just about ready to take his test before the pandemic hit. His instructor has went on to get another job & is no longer teaching. Its been almost impossible to get a lesson booked with another instructor & he was told the waiting list for driving test was 18 - 24 months. He's put off booking any more lessons until next year now.
Glitterandgold that's really not what I wanted to hear I'm in northwest what part of country is that
Imnotcheap I'm in North East (North Tyneside). So possibly might not be as bad in your area. It's even possible it might have improved slightly now here but not by much I would imagine. Like I said, he's put off until early next year hoping it'll be easier to get lessons booked then.
But assuming it is it could still be long waits to get tests booked for some time.
Glitterandgold probably but I'd like her to be driving before she goes away to university really
Imnotcheap I understand. My son wants to drive so it's easier for work, hes managing at the moment tho. As Mrscraig suggested your best bet is to go on FB. That's where to get a hold of most instructors now. Even if they are well booked ask to be notified of any cancellations. Good luck!
Glitterandgold I've messaged a few hope I don't get confused with answers which is which .
I've asked on nextdoor app and linked to my Facebook. Not having much luck yet but
My daughter and I are just about to get in touch with
one for the New Year, hopefully we will manage to find one, she wants a female instructor and one that does automatic. Fingers crossed. We know the lady so hopefully she has space.
eyeballkerry good luck one text me and promised to ring later. TBH I'm not sure which one but hopefully the person will tell me . It's not an outright no at least
Not a job everyone is cut out for I’m a nervous passenger at the best of times never mind with someone just learning
