Durian - Have You Had the Worlds Smelliest Fruit?

It smells like sewage, it’s putrid & I gag every time I try to have it (just in case I change my mind) - but my partner doesn’t mind it & I know people who love its creamy, custard like flesh
It’s very expensive to get over here, so I’ve only really tried it abroad
Have you ever tried the durian? Is there another fruit that you find disgusting?
I've heard about it, but I've never tried it and not sure if I want to. Despite it being known as 'The King of Fruits' and being extremely good for you, it's also known as the Vomit Fruit because of its smell. Yuck!
There's no fruit that I find disgusting, but I'm now allergic to kiwi fruit despite loving them.
AlysonC ah yes, I’m allergic to kiwis also, although it’s never been a fruit I’ve enjoyed anyway (guess the throat itching didn’t help!). Durian is on a different level - just disgusting & one of the only fruits that’ll give you high cholesterol if consumed in huge quantities (I won’t be affected lol)
Yes I have tried it it’s sweet flavour lol wel that’s too some, I don’t eat it often and when I don’t and family goes it really smells so bad like gas

first time I’ve heard that as it’s nothing like that. Ah well to each their own tastes. I dislike coriander can’t stand it as it’s too much for me both the flavour and the smell 
I've never heard of this fruit. A fruit that smells sewage? That'll be a no from me. Sounds grim
Isn't selling itself to me well .Think I will probably give it a miss although I must say I haven't seen one on sale anywhere yet
MelissaLee1 its usually sold in the East Asian supermarkets, but as it’s very smelly, they either have small quantities or just the frozen varieties that are in the freezers (not that I’m recommending it)
I remember when I went to Singapore as a 12 year old in 2002 and we were all amazed at how clean everything was, the next thing that hit us was the smell. As others have said it does smell like sewage so we really couldn't work out why it smelt like that when the place was obviously so clean. We went to one of the food markets and then someone explained to us that it was actually Durian fruit that was causing the smell, and that it was considered a delicacy there.
We did try it but I can't say I really remember what it was like at all.
jms19 you probably didn’t hate it - had you tasted it & it reflected the smells, you’ll never want to try it again. I recall seeing a lot of durians being sold in market stalls in Singapore, which like you said, it’s kind of strange considering how hygiene conscious the country is (though it’s not unhygienic, the smells are just putrid)

They had loads of these growing by some paths in a hotel I stayed in a few years ago. I couldn't stand the smell and it took me a while to realise what it was. I couldn't even bring myself to eat one. I'm not a fan of watermelon.. it's the pips that do it for me

same here I can’t stand watermelon 
either cause of the pips ans it just doesn’t taste nice whatsoever more of a grassy taste… I have seen that some people either put sugar or salt on the fruit. I have eaten some that are naturally sweet but still not a fan 
I purchased some fresh durian from Chinatown in London earlier today. I can confirm it is very pungent and fairly expensive at £20. But, it does taste nice and it's healthy - but, people with certain medical conditions, such as, kidney issues, should be cautious. Until today I had only tried it when it was used as an ingredient in other items, such as doughnuts or ice cream.
