Dying the Hair of Your Kids

I was looking at photos on my laptop yesterday and found pictures from when i dyed my sons hair red, he was about 6 at the time i was doing hairdressing training so was doing a lot of hair and he wanted it, it grew out in a few weeks so wasnt an issue. He did look like a tomato though

My mum said I had to be 16 to dye my hair.. When I was 15 I dyed it myself dark brown from being bright blonde.. i dont agree with dying childrens hair at less than 16, I don’t think salons will do it until at least 16... but there is a difference between spray colour / wash out colour and permanent dying, i would say wash out colour is fine at maybe 10 onwards...

I've never dyed my hair. My mum said I had to be 16 before I could dye my hair and I would have to pay for it myself.

If it is a spray in hair dye that washes out then 12, but I would never use proper dye on a child younger than 16.

We have to accept that the world is changing and that younger children demand the trends. Personally, I wouldn't let any child under 15 have dye applied to their head because of the chemicals in the treatment but then, playing devil's advocate, what age should a child have his or her ears pierced and is it the child's choice or the parent's?

I think no one should do it. When a kid turn adult can decide on their own....18+

Paint is harmful for the hair and it should be ruled out by the schools, not to paint hair, nails and not to use makeup. They should educate about the chemicals in these products.

i hate dyeing my own hair never mind a childs i have seen so many awful pic of people using home dyes and ending up very ill and having swollen eyes ext it frightenden the life out of me

It's probably not the best idea to let them. It's believed the chemicals in hair dye may be a cause of cancer. If true, starting to dye your hair at a younger age would increase your exposure to these chemicals - https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/causes-prevention/risk/myths/hair-dyes-fact-sheet

My son bleached his hair as a teenager not with parental consent. I was cross to begin with but it’s his hair and body after all. I don’t agree with parents who dye young children’s hair though just as a fashion accessory.

I think it depends what kind of dye we are thinking of, but if we are looking at dyes that are potentially dangerous then I don't think parents have the right to allow and it's ahould for the child to be at an age where they understand the consequences, e.g. 16+.
