Eating Unusual Meats
Ask a Question
Apart from the obvious chicken, lamb, beef and pork what meats do you eat and what meats would you never eat?
Not that unusual but I've had snails in France as I'm sure a lot have when over there. I think I'm open to trying most stuff I just haven't had the opportunity!
Strange that you said "Bat" I'd just been reading elsewhere about how hoaxers are posting cures for the Coronavirus and had to laugh out loud at one which was "Bat soup".
Even though the virus is somehow connected with bats - seeking revenge by eating their relatives WILL NOT do the least bit of good. (nor will drinking bath salts)
Ostrich is nice. Venison is very rich. Pheasant tastes like gamey chicken. Duck is very tasty and not greasy if you cook it on a rack over a roasting tin
I'm a guilty meat eater and not expanding the number of meats I eat but instead trying to reduce them. I don't eat lamb anymore or duck. I may have tried duck once or twice in the past. My favourite meats are chicken and beef and it will be difficult to stop eating them.
A long time ago I had horse in France, only found out afterwards. Was very nice but I'm not sure I would have chosen it
My sister (we're french) went to eat a few times at her new boyfriends house. She thought they were having beef steak, she learnt way after it was horse and freaked out. She has married that boyfriend now but when she eats at his folks she always ask what the meat is. Just in case! Fair enough.
I've had a few different ones - ostrich, alligator, kangaroo, goat and water buffalo. All tasted fine to me but I wouldn't put any of them ahead of beef, pork, chicken or lamb.
I would never eat human flesh meat - there again if I was very, very, hungry and starving... who knows!
