Elderly Brit Who Died Recently, Left Most of His Fortune for Turkish Bellboy

In the News

It goes to show , be kind and respect people , you never know what unexpected benefits you might reap

£20,000 to a turkish bellboy must be like becoming a millionaire

And he looks like a very nice person , so deserving for him and his family in this case

I think your title is slightly misleading. The £20K was not most of the elderly mans fortune, it’s a lot of money to the bellboy though.

P, I dont mean to be rude, but how do you know how much the gentleman left in total ?

I cannot find anything saying what was in his will in any of the newspapers , i dont think that it anyones business anyway

Its the title most of the newspapers gave

This was stated in the daily mirror

'' Charles George Courtney left the lion's share of his money to Taşkın Daştan in his will, as well as smaller sums to other employees at the Korumar Hotel De Luxe in Aydin, Turkey.''

telmel The headline is Turkish bellboy is left shocked after wealthy British tourist leaves him a 'small fortune' in his will.

Pjran P, theres no indication anywhere how wealthy he was

Whats wealthy to one is not to another

And you know how newspapers exaggerate to sell a story

As stated in the snippet i posted above they are saying he left 'the lions share' , which is implying most of his money, but how they know this is another question

At the end of the day he was kind enough to leave the deserved person a substantial sum

telmel I copied and pasted the headline from The Mail so if you believe in reading newspapers then this one is no different.

Pjran So theres contradictions there P, one saying his £20.000 was the lions share or bulk of his wealth and another saying he was wealthy, so we will never know , at least it was a feel good story and deserving for the bellboy

Pjran You're wasting your time arguing, a person with less than £40k, would not be described as wealthy, so saying MOST of his fortune when only 20k was given doesn't require any other figures to be given. He either wasn't wealthy - or didn't give MOST of his "fortune" to an individual. (That's logic - but don't expect the OP to understand it... he'll accuse you of bullying him if you persist).

I don't consider myself wealthy* but have well over ten times the £40k - the OP would consider enough to bequeath MOST of my estate to someone by leaving them £20k.

The article linked to DOES NOT say he gave MOST of his fortune to the bellboy. So I agree with you it was VERY misleading. Must mention: last time I used the word MOST the OP thought it meant ALL. (I had said MOST people had stopped using carrier pigeons for messaging).

* Most home owners in the UK have an estate exceeding £40K. But MOST are not considered wealthy.

davidstockport Hi mr 'I am always right ' S , if you read things properly and didn't wade in with your size 9s, you would have seen where i posted that the newspaper said '' THE LIONS SHARE ''

Now i am sure you will agree with me that this means in commoner terms , the majority, ie in this case most of his wealth

You didn't need to slip in that you have more than 10 times his wealth, its not something of interest to anyone but yourself

And if you read my last comment i have posted again below you will see i was saying to P that there are contradictions in the newspaper articles and left it as either of us could be right , so why would i accuse P of bullying ?

So theres contradictions there P, one saying his £20.000 was the lions share or bulk of his wealth and another saying he was wealthy, so we will never know , at least it was a feel good story and deserving for the bellboy

You wonder why you get into constant arguments with other members when you only come on others posts to stir up trouble , as you are doing here

Can't you for once post a civil answer instead of dragging posts down to your level

Thank you

telmel How dare you accuse me of arguing - if you care to read my reply the first five words are "You're wasting your time arguing" to Pjran who didn't know that although what you said in your comment was misleading he/she mustn't mention it. And for your information "Lions Share" (which you LATER found) doesn't necessarily mean the majority. (which means more than half in the context used) If an estate of say 70k was shared out amongst six and five got 10k and one got 20k the one getting 20k could be said to have got the lion's share, but 20k isn't more than half of 70k. Can you find any information to try to counter that?

Lion's share is a very loose term and will depend on which of Aesop's fables the user intended to refer to.

I can't see anything uncivil about my posting (I was supporting a poster in their assertion that your title was misleading - if you want to report my post, please report it. Let admin decide who is being uncivil.

Incidentally when a person posts something totally incorrect and I post (in a civil manner) what is correct that isn't arguing. You might perhaps have noticed that a member posted that stealing a dog is not a crime, some people actually believed him. I hope my intervention explaining it is a crime punishable by up to seven years imprisonment helped prevent people going out stealing dogs.😀

P.S Thanks for the compliment calling me Mr Always Right. Although I must disagree, if I am incorrect I have always been the first to admit it. Those who don't can look very foolish if they don't.

telmel You think wrongly when a will has passed through probate, the contents of a will are the business of any person who is interested.

(with the exception of royal wills).

telmel Quite true if someone insists that stealing dogs is not a crime, it won't harm me... I haven't got a dog!😀

Old King S was a merry old soul,

And a merry old soul was he; (not)

He called for his pipe, and he called for his bowl,

And he called for his fiddlers three (one in your case)

Every fiddler he had a fiddle,

And a very fine fiddle had he;

Oh there's none so rare, as can compare,

With King S and his fiddler (one)
