Who Else Has Got the Flu/covid for Christmas?
Ask a Question
Not sure which one it is but my husband is really suffering. It’s scuppered our Christmas plans with the family for Christmas Day. Not his fault poor thing but I’m really sad about it as my parents are elderly and could be one of our last together. I’m hoping that New Year’s Day will be our celebration instead. Just hope I don’t get it.
That's awful, really feel for both of you. If you have to be ill timing couldn't be worse. Stay well, and hope your husband feels much better soon.
Maybe another family member could call into your parents and do FaceTime with you. Take care, wishing your husband a speedy recovery.
That’s a shame, thankfully not really been touched by either this year I don’t think.
Probably the first Christmas I haven't been poorly, every year I tend to catch something, hope he's feeling better soon
Oh no not this year but have previous years I couldn’t breathe or taste anything felt awful and going through boxes of tissues instead of presents. Hope you manage to celebrate later as best .
Unfortunately we have five missing from tomorrow with this but but one of the visitors had an immune condition which makes him super vulnerable, best be super cautious. The poorly ones will make up for it at new year hopefully.
No not this year last year I had covid and a few weeks ago I have norovirus hope your husband feels better soon
I’ve got a cold which I’ve not been able to shake off and the cough seems to have gotten nastier. But it’s just as well I get a few days off to rest up. Hope your husband gets well soon
Me. Nobody else in my family has got it but I have had it for days. Feel shocking. Hope your husband recovers soon xx
DanielleMcK1992 Ah hope you feel better soon too! It’s horrible isn’t it and worst time of year to have it.
So far we are all ok. In the past we have had some really bad Christmas days when the children have been ill when they picked up germs at school.
eyeballkerry I have an update. My son picked up a cold from somewhere and has now gifted to me. Terrible nights sleep, that why I’m up now at 6.22 am and have no need to be.
The trouble with this time of year and especially with it being so damp bugs breed. Flu is really nasty, no one wants to stuck in bed with leg aches sweats/shivering especially over Christmas and New Year, a friend just the other weekend was telling me about when they had flu it sounded horrendous. I hope he gets well soon and you avoid catching it. Take care and keep those fluids up that goes for you too keep hydrated
I haven’t been ill with flu or anything this year thankfully (touch wood). Hopefully you’re better soon
There seems to be a loyt of bugs doing the rounds, our friends have been quite poorly since just before Xmas.
Hope everyone is fully recovered soon, being ill isn't nice especially at Christmas..
I was supposed to be on shift at the Supported Living house where I work two years ago at New Year & caught Covid so couldn't work,I only had a bit of a cough & sniffles but I had to consider vulnerable people I support & the colleagues I work with..
Covid hasn't gone away, it's here to stay so we have to get used to it.
janphoenix51 Yes but rather still not have it! My husband was the one that caught it even though he had both current flu and covid jabs well in advance . Luckily I only had head cold and cough so wonder if I’ve had this strain before with some resistance. I never got round to the jabs either. He’s never had it before so now he definitely knows what it’s like if I ever get another one. They keep mutating and no one has found a cure yet.
Not covid related..
I knocked my leg on the corner of the bed at work end of October, ended up with an infection in my leg & on Antibiotics & Cream after visiting Sheffield's Walk In Centre..
This got better in Nov then last Thursday the bottom of the leg was hot to touch & painful so Saturday 21st Dec, I went to Pharmacist, he looked at my leg & advised me to to call 111 which I did ,the out of hours Dr rang me & advised me to go to A & E as he couldn't see how bad my leg was as he didn't have the facilities to look at any photos I could send him.
I told him that I couldn't go as I was going out ,booked tickets to a Motown Night with food & drink for my friend's birthday, I could walk fine ,only had a bit of pain too.
I was advised to call 111 next day but I left it until my days off which were Boxing Day after finishing at 10.30am & yesterday..
I got an appointment at Sheffield's Walk In Centre on Boxing Day at 5.40pm,it was dark & foggy as I walked up while my partner parked the car so I couldn't see properly & tripped & fell putting my right hand out to stop me hitting the pavement..
I got up & hobbled into the Walk In Centre, explained what had happened, when I was seen about my leg the Nurse gave me a course of Antibiotics but couldn't do X Ray's on my hand as there are no facilities for this..
I had to attend Minor Injuries Unit yesterday & after 4 X Ray's came away wearing a splint on my wrist!
I can work so will be on shift today 8.30am-5.30pm & on all day Sunday til Monday morning,Sunday after 5.30pm on my own til my colleague comes on at 9am Monday.
Luckily for me the two people I support are able bodied & I will have my colleague working along side me most of time doing the chores that I can't..
I did offer to take time off using my Annual Leave this weekend but couldn't as we are short staffed..
I have got an email from my Manager stating what chores I'm not allowed to do just to cover me & him.
My sister in law and her family has the flu bug at the moment, it ruined their Christmas, my niece has asthma and was in hospital Christmas day & boxing day, she's a bit better now
martinlufc5637 Ah poor thing going to hospital. Sorry your sister in law’s family had it too. Yes it completely ruined all our Christmas too.
JLouM hope you and your family manage to get together soon. I wouldn't mind but few days after I hot rid of one cough I got another my kids are very generous
Winter season always brings about the flu hope you are get better soon take care of yourselves! Drink plenty of water, herbal tea etc and if you have lost your sense of taste do try to eat some fruits too
Was grand over the Christmas thankfully. Woke at 6 this morning with a irritating tingling cough. So suspect someone has passed along their lergy to me. Heres hoping it's gone by my birthday nxt week.
How is your husband now? I am currently recovering from a cold (at least I hope that's all it is). Have a nasty cough which caused a terrible sore throat that feels like crushed glass, due to coughing so much. Particularly hurts when I talk.
Had it for a week, but it feels like it's been much longer. Fed up of it now.
RegularComper91 He’s much better now thank you. We would be now everyone is back at work! . His started exactly as you described a throat feeling like crushed glass/knife stabbing pain. Yes the cough is what lingers the longest and it’s not pleasant. Well I hope you feel better soon, it’s such a horrible virus.
I didn’t have it over Xmas but have it now. Bad chest, cough and really struggling to breathe with it atm
KateGriff169 Ah I’m sorry you have it now. Never a good time to get it. Hope you feel better soon!!
No but my local authority has sent out to all schools that kids have to go home if they are displaying signs of flu and parents have to keep them at home
JLouM yeah our hospital is pretty rammed with flu so it makes sense to be honest.
our hospital is really struggling at the moment with large numbers of patients and also lots of staff off sick. That even after a massive push to get staff vaccinated.
