Embarrassing Adverts

Other

Am I the only one who gets embarrassed by the explicit adverts on our screens. I expect I am because it seems anything goes these days and no one seems to feel embarrassment anymore, it is a redundant emotion.

The one that makes me cringe is Jenny Eclair spouting about a very intimate topic, the V.I.P.oo ads, and I saw an ad that bordered on soft p*rn when watching very late one night. I hate being caught out by these ads when I'm in mixed company.

I dunno why but UK TV ads just feel so weird and creepy, that goes for most of them. I guess they're just trying to be funny in some way but ends but being awkward.

US TV ads aren't as bad but they sure take a while to get back to the show they were broadcasting.

My favorite ads are usually from Spain and Canada.

I watched tv in America back in the 80s but can't remember the actual ads. What I can remember is that they just suddenly went from programme to add without any warning. It took a while to realise the ad break was on!

At that time British programmes used to clearly state on screen 'end of part one' but now at least we get a still from the show or a sponsor ad.

I got embarrassed by my son in the supermarket he was singing a song n i couldn't quite remember where or what it was till he loudly sung oh bodyform bodyform for me, i nearly died of embarrassment n told him he can't sing it because its about lady bits. Luckily ppl who heard it judt laughed it off. They seem to put some of the worst adverts on when its teatime like the thrush one and fungal toe nails x i turn the TV to mute when the ads are on now x πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Lol you forget what life is like with youngsters! Most of those ads are so unnecessary or could be a lot more discreet. I know it sounds silly but I cringe even when watching alone!

I don't get embarrassed or offended by adverts. However, I'm tired of the same old rehashed and uninspiring adverts on TV. I can't think of any TV ads over the last few years that I actually liked

There's an ad (30s long I think) from another country which is about a recipe to cook rabbit meat, well, that's fine.

What's not fine is how at the end of it the narrator (by a guy) he says "Enjoy. It's from Europe!" his tone sounds as though he wants to remind everyone it's from "Europe" and to enjoy, whether it pleases them or not. Maybe I'm just reading too much into it. Still, that's an annoying ad.

Found only an image of it online:

The slogan "Enjoy. It's from Europe!" is used in Europe-EU countries, hence the EU flag.

I don't get embarrassed by adverts. I just see them as advertising the products that are available for people to buy.

I can understand that as these ads have been around probably for most of your 'aware' life. As you have probably seen in loads of my comments I often say how many things are generational. I grew up and probably to near 50 without all these ads for intimate products and they weren't especially talked about. I have moved with the times to a certain extent but I do still feel that some things do not always have to be out there.

Young people often forget that people my age (and I don't regard 65 as ancient) were raised in a time when not only was sex before marriage frowned upon but if you had a child as a result you were labelled, and also being gay was still against the law. Most people develop into a person moulded by childhood experiences and disciplines. I am glad the things I mentioned are no longer 'sinful' but I really do not want to have intimate ads popping up when I least expect them lol.

Lynibis you are the same age as my parents, none of you are ancient. I remember from my childhood my mum telling me about how she didn't live with my dad until they were married and it wasn't normal to see gay people on TV as it is now, so I do understand why it would be different for people of a different generation seeing these things.
