Energy Prices to Rise by 8% in April for Those on Standard Tariffs .

In the News

If you haven't investigated the compare and switch websites now is the time to do a dummy run . Grab your latest bill it will have your annual usage on it for Electricity and Gas in KWh , use these figures on a switch site and it will give you an idea . Its simple takes 5 minutes max and you will be ready to assess your options for April .

Always use your Annual usage from your bill (its far more accurate ) where possible . Secondly you can exit your current deal 69 days before its end date with no penalty - SO THAT IS NOW ! If your current deal ends before the middle of April .

Any questions ? I'll answer if I can or at least point you in the right direction for best advice .

Imnotcheap there was a bit on the Martin Lewis money show, about 2 or 3 weeks ago now I think, about energy bills and how to switch supplier if you were in debt with your current supplier. Should be available on the ITV hub.

Yes I understand that is a problem when you wish to switch , it has been winter too which doesn't help . Do a dummy run anyway to see how much you could save , might give you an added incentive to gradually whittle down your arrears . Also might be an idea to keep an eye on Martin Lewis's website "Moneysaving expert" https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/ , he often has news of innovative deals . Maybe there will be one that allows you to transfer a Debit balance .

Golfforall I watch his show every week. We always switch our energy supplier each year. Thanks to the Martin Lewis show my husband was able to get the working from home tax reduction, saves us about £70.

I'm with Scottish Power and have been a bit slow at doing my meter readings as my smart meters are now dumb meters since I moved to Scottish Power as they can't use the smart functionality of my meters. Anyway a few days ago because they'd estimated my bills they decided to estimate that I owed them £1800 despite my normal monthly use being about £45-70 and my monthly bills were going up to £400 approx.

Contacted Scottish Power by chat where a pleasant chap in India cancelled the charge but on checking my account afterwards I had to change the monthly fee back down to normal myself plus when I did my meter readings their estimates were spot on and very close to my normal amount used so why the random change of £1800 which was completely unjustified.

Punishment for not doing my meter readings?

So my warning to anyone with Scottish Power is make sure you do your manual meter readings promptly. I should add despite their wording below it was an estimate.

lynneh Christ, I reckon my eyes would pop out of my head in a cartoon style way if I got that bill. Scottish Power really should be punished for sending out such ridiculous charges for many people struggling with their income and debt it is completely unacceptable they do this. Every time a ridiculous charge is going to a customer it should be flagged up on their system before sending just to check the details are correct. Totally unacceptable in my opinion. Actually makes me angry thinking about it.

BonzoBanana agree. Supported someone on a Scottish power incompetence. Went through ombudsman... joke! They Didn’t support or back up against their failures at all. I get and understand educate and not humiliate but they are the worst. Fact. I call them a Scottish poor and when your Scottish the poor sounds like power slang.
