I checked UTILITA out a few years ago - from what I remember they seemed OK for those on prepayment meters (which I'm not) but didn't seem much good for others,

A company that doesn't get much attention is EBICO I've had no problems with them. They suit my needs because I have two gas meters (one dormant) and I don't have to pay a standing charge on it.

I've also been thinking about switching the non-dormant gas meter and electricity meter to BULB.

They're both worth checking out - but so much depends on your own circumstances and usage.

A word of advice: If you're using comparison sites use one that gives prices from all suppliers, not just from those they get a commission from, where they'll do the switch for you. It might mean you've got to do the switch yourself but it's not too difficult.

It's always worth shopping round for a better price, it's the same gas and electricity whoever you use . . . . just different prices. Unlike home insurance and internet service providers you can't haggle for better prices with energy companies - you've got to look around for the best one for you.

I used to work for a distribution company so were constantly getting calls from customers with every company going. One thing I would suggest is look at their opening hours for faults, we were guaranteed Friday at 5pm when all the smaller companies closed, people would start having issues with their meters, especially prepayment and often had to go without power until Monday at 9am. Also check out contract length. Not all companies will be perfect for everyone. Octopus are coming out best at the moment by consumer votes but it changes constantly
