England vs Italy
Ask a Question
What are your score predictions for tonight's match? Haven't won since 1966!!! C'mon England. I'll say 3-2
England
What a shame!!!! Feel quite disheartened, we played really well. Congratulations to Italy.
I think its going to be a tight match and Italy have mostly played very well through the tournament. I was fairly convinced we would do well and a very good chance to reach the final but for the actual final its too tough to call I think. I'm just going to watch the game and try to enjoy it and have my fingers crossed we will win but not be too upset if we don't. It's still amazing to reach the final.
I certainly feel Italy are beatable though but there is also a luck factor with ref decisions etc. It's mostly skill but there is a 20% luck element too I feel.
Haha you're funny.
England have only played mug teams so far and the Italians are unbeaten in 33.
I've had to listen to all this 'It's coming home' nonsense for weeks now and it's done my swede in.
I think that you'll come unstuck tonight.
Not sure why I'm funny, I've said all along we could do well but Italy are looking very strong and they would be really difficult to beat in the final and it's exactly what I predicted and I've been saying Italy are likely to be in the final from the very beginning such is their great form. Also I don't think Germany are a poor team. It was a hard slog of a match with both teams going up and down in ability at different points in the match and finally penalties. It couldn't have been closer really.
As an English person I also found that 'It's coming home' slogan annoying. Italy were the most impressive team in this tournament so the over-confidence was irritating to say the least. I would have preferred some humility.
Still we reached the final a huge achievement especially compared to past form.
Ann1984 I don't hate the Welsh, one I knew particularly well was very loving, distance is a cruel thing.
lilyflower I don't hate the Welsh either, and most of the Welsh I know don't hate the English, although I did hear of one bitter Welshman who actually bet against England when they played Germany. I suppose he is one who both the English and Welsh consider a double loser. ;-)
davidstockport I don't think that you understand the rivalry between the home nations, especially with football and rugby.
Maybe you just played netball in school and just don't get it
As a 'bitter' Welshman, I bet on Italy to beat England last night, but only because I thought Italy would win the tie.
And guess what..... I've got a whole weeks shopping paid for with my winnings
TheChimp But you've got to admit the un-named bitter Welshman who bet on GERMANY to beat England was a DOUBLE LOSER - We have to wonder if he had to go a week without food to pay for his foolishness. (Very sad when people have to rely on gambling to provide for themselves - I personally have enough money to pay for food for the rest of my life, it's money that many mugs would have wasted on gambling).
I do undestand the rivalry between home nations I also understand that many amongst us will support other members of the home nations when no national rivalry is involved.
BonzoBanana I agree with your comments. Don't you also find it rather sad that we can't support the last team standing on an island? It was good to see Kalvin Phillips kissing his medal. Didn't like this though....
davidstockport I completely agree with your last comment - I would've been rallying for any other national team had they been the only one in the comp.
davidstockport No, you don't understand, it's only England that the other 3 nations won't support.
Us Welsh, Scots and the NI will support eachother, but never England, it's just the way it is.
Hi sunny101, I hope you are keeping well.
It looks obvious that you're not a fellow Celt otherwise you'd understand what I'm talking about.
The arrogance of the English is unbelievable and the press already had the Euros won before a ball was kicked.
And it keeps on going on even though they lost! The media are now talking about them winning the World Cup
sunny101 I recall back in 1974 when Scotland were the only home nation in the World Cup finals, how the rest of us got behind them. It is one of the reasons I later took a dislike to Andie Murray (the Scottish whinger who plays batty/ball) who when asked who he wanted to win some soccer tournament replied "anyone but England".
Furthermore many Scots took a strong dislike to him too. One of my friends who is Scottish actually growls and spits if anyone even mentions his name. ;-)
davidstockport Yep! I have a Scottish 'bestie' who feels the same as me and we also have the same take on Mr Murray and his attention seeking Mummy.
TheChimp I know that isn't true - I know dozens of decent Scots, Welsh and Irish people who have supported England when their home nation hasn't been represented. It's only the bitter and twisted ones who seem jealous of our superiority, who don't support England.
That's the way it actually is!
(we even allow a few Welsh teams to play in our English League)
davidstockport Errrrrrrrrrm, I don't know what these 'decent' people that you are commenting about. You seem to be just making things up.
Don't make me get Ann1984 on your case
davidstockport I have been offline sorry any problems do tag me. TheChimp please can we cool things down thank you
There is a world cup next year, if we continue the same form or better we can go far in that too. I really can't see England's performance at the Euro's as anything other than hugely positive. It's not like we were beaten 4:0 we made a game of it. If we can keep this level of football for the next few years we will start winning trophies. I'm immensely proud of the players and what they have achieved.
boepeep I know people may not want to think that way now as they are hugely disappointed but hopefully they will become more rational and appreciate what has been achieved in a few days.
BonzoBanana Sorry Bonzo, but the English supporters are a bit away from the real world. England played 120 minutes with the 11 players behind the ball line. It was like Southend United FC x Man City. Everyone is congratulating the manager, and I cannot understand why really.
Believe me, the World Cup is 1000x more difficult than Euro, and playing like a chicken is not going to win anything.
England played well to get to the final and they played well during it, they fought off Italy whilst many other teams would have lost before extra time. Penalties is such a horrible way for any team to loose as its nothing more that a lottery. Sadly the haters will be out in full force now
I guess we're going to be hearing about 1966 for a while longer now. The fans that spent thousands to get hold of tickets to the final are probably now experiencing a bit of buyer's remorse.
ACR We have to hope buyer's remorse is the worst they suffer, the pandemic doesn't have a rest because there's a football match being played.
On a lighter note... had to smile at some signs I heard about yesterday: HELP THE NHS If the match goes to penalties please don't watch.
England played great compared to how they played with Denmark. The goal in the first 2 mins was very unexpected. Theres always next year thought
Personally think the team have played brilliantly this past few weeks. They should be proud to have reached the Final for the first time since 66.
Yes it’s sad that they lost on penalties but there is more to this team to come.
Well done England.
kimcress Not having it.
They played rubbish teams until they faced Italy. And they played most of their games at home compared to everyone else.
I thought that all the crap would stop on the radio and TV, but no chance, they're now talking about winning the World Cup! Good luck with that.
TheChimp 100% agree.
A rubbish German side, the kind half of the draw, home advantage.
I'll say it again, England will never have a better opportunity to lift a major trophy as they had yesterday.
The whole tournament was fantastic to watch but wtf was a 19yr old taking the biggest England in a very long time!
I know. Wrong move there! Not because he isn't good but too much pressure on him, needed more experienced penalty players. I felt sorry for him.
boepeep The other senior players should be ashamed that they allowed him to take the penalty.
I couldn't really care less about the football to be honest.
On the other hand it would have ended up being a historical event if England had won, as it would have been the first win since 1966 I believe.
I did watch it last night and although they didn't win I thought they gave a lot of hope and have come so far under Southgate's wing. I don't typically watch football or take much interest in it but because it was such a huge competition and England were doing so well I began to develop the Footy fever.
I guess that is what they wanted, to get people interested in football and bring hope and inspiration to many.
