Have You Ever Used Your EHIC Card Abroad?
Ask a Question
If you’re wondering what it is, here is some info:
I have never bothered, as travel insurance does the job better
I've always had one and the E111 before it - thankfully never had to use it. Yes, you would have insurance but this was always a top up and to make sure you were not carted off to a private fee paying clinic. I doubt that this will be of any use after the end of October.
If I need medical assistance, I usually visit a private clinic. It's not free (it never is) but it's worth it, quick and they're competent.
angemski Oh, I didn't mean private clinics in U.K. specifically but mostly in Portugal and Spain.
I have to admit I am lucky that I've never had to use it. I do always have travel insurance too though so I think I would probably be covered on that anyway!
Yes, travel insurance would cover you. EHIC is just part of an agreement the EU countries have in place, but most countries don’t adhere to the agreement
I have one, but have never had cause to use it.
I also always get travel Insurance, better to be safe than sorry.
No i've never had the chance to use this
can someone please tell me if we can use it or not after brexit please?
being told we can and we can't all the time
even before Brexit, the hospitals in the EU did not pay much attention to the EHIC card, as they’d rather charge you than let you get seen to for free. It’s just a reciprocal agreement and not law, so it doesn’t entitle you to treatment by law. And after Brexit, the card would be completely redundant
Used it recently and it is nit true the dint pay attention to it ! It is insurance so they do and you could have used it , recently abroad in hospital and few years ago in gp abroad , no problem to use it ! Unfortunately we cannot use it after brexit
Recently being abroad and my daughter had acceded ended up in hispital for 5 days, used the card and it was easy and no problem, what a shame after brexit we won’t be able to use it anymore
