What Exactly is a Christmas Eve Box?

I have 2 kids aged 12 years and 18 months and Ive seen these Christmas Eve boxes out and about and just wondering what you put in them. Is it a Christmas stocking replacement?
Dunno if Im getting old but I prefer traditional to these modern things.
Any advice would be appreciated x
You beat me to it. I am to wondering what a Christmas eve box's is. All so I've never seen them be for UNTILL this year. Are the emity box's that you fill. If so my mum and dad use to get a medium size box and put Christmas paper around the out side of box . Then full the box with use full things for going back to school. Like a new bag lunch box pencil case. But what my mum and dad did was give it on new years eve and said Santa left you this. It was just a little extra gift. 
Im glad Im not the only one. Ive seen the boxes in shops with Christmas Eve Box written on the side but just dont know what to put in. Is it an early present? Do you put basic items in like a letter from santa and colouring books etc? Might have to ask Mr Google for advice lol.
It is a present box for xmas eve. You still get a stocking xmas day 
I make my daughter one every year. I put in -
A book about xmas
A letter from me and her dad about how shes been so good all year etc.
Hot choc and marshmellows
Dvd for xmas eve night
Popcorn or crisps
A magazine
A new pair of pjs
New socks
New slippers
Xmas themed Sweets
A cuddly toy
I really go overboard though! Most people just do maybe 4 of them items 
Im exactly like you. I go OTT when it comes to my kids. I love what you do. Im gonna be pinching your ideas. A a pre xmas movie night in a box. Sounds great.
