Excess Packaging
Ask a Question
I buy a lot online and I am shocked about the amount of packaging some things come in, for example I ordered 5 pairs of socks which came in a medium sized box with lots of air pockets.
I seem to recall there was a campaign a few years ago to reduce packaging.
What's the worst excess packaging you have recently come across ?
It is ridiculous I order a paint brush on Amazon and the box it came in would have held 1000 of them
I've 11 S&S orders and have asked Amazon to send it in one box if possible. Easier for me and the driver.
Hopefully they will listen to you, in the past I have selected deliver on the same day, wrongly assuming that it would come in one delivery only to receive multiple deliveries on the same day, luckily we were home all day
Imnotcheap Imnotcheap I had message today asking if I wanted my deliveries in one parcel/ same day delivery !
I think with Amazon it just that they have concentrated on just a few box sizes for maximum cost efficiency and just use the one that will fit so you do get big boxes with small items. Must save them a fair bit of money. I just dont like the large rolls of scrunched up brown paper they use as padding - takes ages to roll it up as tight as possible as otherwise it will fill the green bin up in no time. Probably better that its not plastic based padding like some use.
Sometimes Amazon send one tiny thing in a massive box, something they send very heavy things in a box with fragile things. I imagine the staff are just too busy to care. Happy to be shopping In store again, where I can pick exactly what I want and transport it home safely without filling my bin with cardboard.
Think this subject has been done on here multiple times ? Surely our part is to ensure the packaging is properly recycled ? End of ?
If they can send it in a bulk it helps everyone involved (picker > delivery driver > postman > customer) than just recycling afterwards.
I'm not sure about excess packaging, but if we're talking about a carbon footprint, I'm not sure whether Debenhams would come out with glowing colours.
We bought 6 items for MrsChimp in one order and they were sent in 4 different deliveries.
I definitely think Amazon are the worst culprits for this. If its not getting one item delivered in a huge box it's having your order delivered separately
I ordered 10 tubes of superglue in one order and they came in 10 packages !! Gotta love Amazon sometimes!
Amazon’s packaging is extreme, such a waste. A small item in such a big box or multiple different delivery’s.
From one extra to the other, I bought 10 pairs of socks from Amazon, which didn't come in any packaging, except the manufacturers & an address label. They arrived safely and it was nice not having to break down a box
Lol when I order a product from Amazon it always comes in a large box no matter the size of the item. They pack it with plastic and air… It’s annoying
Childrens toys are terrible for packaging, there are so many layers of plastic. At least the cardboard can be recycled.
A small candle from dunelm and it came in a massive box with loads of packaging. I went and done a click and collect and the. Man said thisbis your and I even said no I don’t think it it’s Iv only ordered a small candle
I bought 6 packet of corn cakes they come in a massive box with air pockets and an empty box to pack it out. Whilst the boxes come in handy. I was very confused to why it was packed this way. Seems to be an Amazon thing.
