Exoskeletons for the Elderly
In the News
I guess with an ageing population, it’s an idea for the future

good idea? Or very, very bad idea?
Hi hspexy I think elderly should be enjoying there twilight years. They worked all there life payed there tax. I know some elderly still want to work. But I can see a day were there will be no pension and you will work until the end. I think it's a bad idea. What every next will think of. It up set me to read it. It looks very uncomfble and heavy. I think it would give you a lot of back pain. It looks like what the horse wear. for work. They are treating the elderly worse then anmails.
I think in Japan it’s most likely the elderly have chosen to work in their golden years, and they probably have to as their population has gone into decline. It is definitely not a great idea as a whole, but perhaps a reality of what’s to come in our future
we have a friend in his seventies and still works. He actually loves his job and doesn’t need to work financially speaking. Unfortunately he doesn’t have a hobby so he dedicates himself to his job. He’s self employed.
That reminds me of a time I was working with a lady in an office who was counting down the days to her retirement...and her plan was just to get another job that was less intense, something like collecting trolleys in the supermarket! I thought that was funny, as she was dead serious
It will be weird getting beaten up by a 90 year old in an exo-skeleton suit outside wetherspoons. Though thinking about it I suspect such suits will appeal more to younger ages who want more power. Yes the first ones are going to be basic lifting devices but it won't be long before they enhance many parts of the human body even allowing people to jump from high heights. I guess we are moving to a cybernetics age, perhaps 2050 and beyond.
Going 100s of years into the future with the human consciousness digitised I can imagine a person fully integrated into a complete robot body and being able to exist on other planets like Mars for example or even have their consciousness sent to far star systems after death where they will live again as a remote explorer in a robot body made of resources from that star system.
Lol so this exoskeleton is indeed the next step to progress, or at least a step towards making all the films we have been watching come true
It's not just for the elderly, but any job that requires a lot of heavy lifting. I can imagine building site labourers, removal men, etc would benefit from this type of technology. Hopefully, in a couple of years you'll be able to buy something like the exoskeleton Ripley used in the film Aliens - that would be fun.
Lol I think so too. I have tried on numerous occasions to extend my upper body strength, but to no avail - with an exoskeleton I would be able to achieve the dream
This is one of the most absurd things that I have encountered. Maybe someone thinks that my 'wonky' back would benefit from one of these but it is never going to happen. Perhaps they would like my 93 year old dad to have one too, but it is probably heavier than he is and I can't see him staying upright or even getting upright in the first place! The people who devise these things need to be put on an island somewhere - all alone - so that they can't inflict these things on the general population.
