Should Face Masks Be Compulsory in Public?

I noticed the buffoon in power is on about them being mandatory and even the orange gob across the pond was wearing one.
I have a mask but don't usually wear it unless its really busy but should we all be wearing one in public?
Or are you more for sitting on the floor having a tantrum shouting about your rights because the shop wouldn't serve you without a mask?
I personally think that people are much safer when they were a face covering or mask. Countries where people have been wearing masks have had much lower numbers of cases and deaths than the UK like Singapore and South Korea.
Plus, since the WHO believe that the virus could be airborne, you’ll be reducing your risk of catching it a lot by wearing one I think.
It's a bit like 'closing the stable door'. Also if you are wearing 'medical' grade they are only effective for 8 hours and requiring changing in a sterile environment. There is no point in making people wear them if that person then removes it to speak to you, or wears it around their mouth because they don't like their nose covered.
My feelings exactly. I have reluctantly bought some for my Partner and I, super cheap on Amazon. I personally think it's an infringement on our civil liberties. When will this end? Once this comes in, and people in the UK are so very polite and compliant, we will have this forever and a day. I am strongly against this and think the world has gone quite mad.
Fair to say I will be restricting my visits to the shops even more now, if that was at all possible. I get my weekly food shopping delivered to my home, so the need to trundle around the shops is not really necessary.
I have a social bubble with another household, plus I am lucky to be able to get out once a day for exercise in the countryside. I can perhaps count on one hand how many people I have seen wearing a mask where I live.
I think rather than opening up the economy and supporting local businesses, this puts another barrier to entry. Lots of people are not convinced by the 'so called' science on this. It gives people a false sense of comfort and authority.
If you look at the stats, you will see that the deaths are down to single/double digits each day. To think of the damage this lockdown has done to jobs, how it has prolonged treatment for other patients needing hospital treatment for caner conditions etc. Bring on yet another government review that will pay lip service to the errors and mistakes that have been made. Whilst people have lost friends and family members. It's all terribly sad.

As someone who has had or maybe still has covid 19 a face mask prevents me from ejecting the virus but wouldn't protect me from it as my eyes are still exposed if someone coughed in my face. They don't really protect people from it they stop people with it transmitting it. Personally I don't wear one when out and about because I like to breathe and I have slightly reduced lung capacity but would always wear one where I would be in close proximity to someone like in a shop. I guess if I can keep a distance of 4m I don't wear one but 2m or less and I would, where people pass me quickly within 4 metres I look away and look down for the 1/2 second that they pass me, i.e. on a walk and someone has just come around the corner without me seeing them in advance.
I'm not going out much but when I do like I will on Wednesday to pick up school tie I will be wearing one every little helps. I intend to do everything I can to keep my family safe. I've lost enough people this year don't want to loose any more
They’re not comfortable, but as with anything, we will get used to them. I think we should wear them in built up areas - shops and public transport. I’d rather be uncomfortable than unwell.
On the BBC - News - Politics it says "Masks and other face coverings are worn to help prevent wearers spreading coronavirus, rather than catching it". Surely if you have symptoms you should NOT be going OUT to supermarket or anywhere else. Also what the germs on the hands of said people who touch items on shelves etc and put them back, a mask is not going to be much good.
Yes you're right, if you have it you should be staying home, BUT you can have it without showing symptoms for up to two weeks, so if you went to shops and didn't wear a mask you could potentially pass it on to many others whereas wearing a mask greatly reduces this
I had the virus from mid January with very light symptoms, after about 12 weeks of light symptoms I got a big reaction to it as if my body finally decided to fully fight the virus for about 4 weeks I struggled with breathing at home until it got so bad I went into hospital and was put on oxygen, since coming out of hospital I've fairly quickly healed with most of my lung capacity restored but I still have a very minor sore throat that will not go away. None of this fits in with the common advice given about Covid 19 which I'm guessing is for people who have a normal immune response to the virus not a myeloid immune response like myself. People who are asymptomatic may also be contagious for a long period and I maybe I'm not sure. I have to exercise to restore lung capacity and walking is one of the best exercises for me outside in the fresh air which makes breathing more comfortable. So I've had a minor sore throat since mid January and still have a minor sore throat about six months later, six months is a long time to stay inside. I've been tested for Covid 19 4 times which were all negative however I was kept in isolation while in hospital as my lung damage and symptoms were typical of covid 19.
Covid 19 is very difficult to understand as it attacks multiple organs around the body, many people are suffering only from mental illness, some of which is just pure stress caused by this situation but there is mounting evidence in attacks the nervous system in some people, causes an inflammed brain and strokes. It pretty much tries to infect all organs it seems. My issue may be I have pharyngitis caused by the virus, my pharynx may have been damaged from my immune response, it could be a bacterial infection or I still have the covid 19 virus there even if I have cleared it out from the rest of my body. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being mild and 10 being terrible its a very mild sore throat probably worth a 1 or 2 on that scale.
The way covid 19 attacks the body in so many ways with varying levels of success means covid 19 just about seems different for everybody. One person can be struggling to breathe, another becoming delusional, someone else suffers a stroke and someone else a heart attack. Of course the vast majority get light symptoms or no symptoms.
I'm happy to wear one and don't particularly understand the argument from those who aren't. It keeps you and others safe. Hospital staff and many others wear them for 12 hours a day, so it's not too much to ask to wear one in shops etc is it
Once all the "intellectually challenged " eventually get it through their skulls that face masks/coverings protect others (not the wearer ) then we might have a change of opinion ?
Its an act for common good to wear a face covering in crowded spaces , even supermarkets - not to protect yourself but to protect others from you . Unfortunately you can pass on the virus before you even know you have it !
Much of the recent relaxations in the guidance are not because Pubs, Barbers etc are safe but because we need to allow folks a bit of relaxation and avoid the permanent closure of many businesses .
Wearing a face covering is not a problem to me for 20 -30 mins while I shop . Remember many have to travel to work wearing one , then wear one for the majority of their working day .
Not wearing one when and where advised is antisocial and selfish . Sadly the idiots we breed these days will continue to flout any recommendations adding to the risk to the general public .
Personally no and judging by the people I pass in the streets or shops most others in my area feel the same. If they make it compulsory it'll likely be for entering shops, rather than walking in open areas. Not sure how this could work in pubs and restaurants, which are likely to be higher risk than an average shop 
Pubs and restaurants were reopened to save the industry , a massive employer and contributor to our economy .
Of course pubs /restaurants aren't completely safe but it was a judgement call . The risks countered against public morale and the economic benefits .
My local has observed all the guidance , even exceeding the old 2 metre rule inside but I am still more comfortable in the beer garden. Again I could live with wearing a face covering , slipping it down to have a glug then pushing it back up between .
To be honest its not going to happen in Pubs and Restaurants -so its a risk we may have to accept or not .
I think it should be your own personal decision but if a shop doesn't want to serve maskless people then the people who are maskless should respectfully accept that and not enter the shop as long as the correct signage is outside. You shouldn't have to force anyone to wear a mask if they have specific mental/physical conditions such as claustrophobia or autism, that isn't fair 
Sure, but only indoors. I do not believe that people have to wear a mask when walking on the street and open spaces, this would become another health problem.
Well government need to raise some cash with all that has been paid out over last 4 months so hoping they get fair few £100 pounds back into pot. Its abit late mind should have been from start you can pick up mask cheap I managed to get last pack at £3.07 today from amazon delivery tomorrow.
Love it , the council "litter wardens " will be rubbing their hands in glee . As the " entitled generation" chuck them away in the streets the wardens will pounce with their on the spot fines .
Should keep Council Tax down .
Of course they want to get some money back instead of taxing super rich more and stopping tax havens and bailing out billionaires.
Yes we should deffo be wearing them out in public, we shouldve always been wearing them out in oublic not just on buses. Governement a bit late telling us this but what do you expect.
i personally think its a bit to late isnt it... we had mass wave and it wasnt compulsory then surely that would have been perfect timing.
the hospital wanted my 18 month old to wear a mask, now lets be honest... yes i understand why, but she wast having none of it.
in fact she kept taking it off and then it became a game to take it off put it back on.
