Facebook Sob Stories

Ask a Question

Am I the only one who gets irrationally annoyed by all the sob stories on FB?.Most competition winners are picked randomly by a computer,so what's the point in trying to elicit sympathy by talking about your dead relative/pet, or how bad your health is etc. 🤐

LeighReidAtanas second this ^ my friend auditioned for X factor many years ago, she was an amazing singer and got through the first couple of rounds of auditions (before you get to the judges) only to be asked if she had a sob story and she said no, they told her to make one up otherwise they couldn’t put her through.. she walked away and never bothered again!

Yeah because its just attention seeking, oh look at me ive lost a relative. When most people have lost a relative but they aren't broadcasting it everywhere. The worst ones are the people who put a post on saying something is up but dont say what, hoping people pm them or put you ok hun.

You’re not alone on thinking that. Most of us have sad events in our lives but I hide mine, not good but I get too emotional talking about it.

My frustration someone that posts some quote on Facebook to which there are umpteen replies "you ok hun" and the person ignores them.

I have noticed lately that some people are commenting on FB comps with 'I don't have a sob story so what's the point in leaving a message?' I totally agree and I don't watch the programmes where the prerequisite is to have a sob story.

It's not just Facebook or for competitions. Many people feel the need to share a sob story (play the victim) on social media. Especially, celebrities who use it as a device to get some sympathy and attention. Often while promoting a new project or using it an excuse for something bad they've done or said.

It annoys me too, I feel like I'm not worthy to win. I notice some comps now ask you to just enter a phrase and they say no entry that doesn't do that will be considered. Still see people doing extra though!

There is no such thing as mental stamina, stiff upper lip, smile and get on with it anymore. We have raised a generation of snowflakes who feel their problems should be broadcast to the world and can't bear the smallest problem or disruption to their lives. Many confuse mental illness (which needs medical intervention) with being down, fed up, or suffering a temporary bad time. I may sound hard but I do not want to hear about the problems of strangers, it helps no one, in fact it makes everyone feel worse. Keep it within your family, good friends and medical professionals.

Competitions are the last place I want to hear about anyone's problems and as someone else said, it makes me feel I don't deserve to win!

Im the same when it comes to not wanting to hear other peoples problems, i keep getting told off my wife that i have zero empathy! Its not quite true as i do have some but only for a select few. When it comes to competitions i don't enter as you aren't going to win and if you have to put phrases then you are giving the company some data to use or sell without ever having a chance of winning. The best ones are the posts where people have supposedly won something but they are underage and you need to comment and share this post in with a chance to win even though you are just helping with the companies algorithm and no chance of winning!

Getsome I actually have loads of empathy and probably well up at least once a day when watching stuff like Alan Titchmarch garden makeovers, a child dying, the families of covid victims etc. But I can't stand people who can't cope with just a normal life. The campaign to talk I think is defeatist because misery loves company and I would much sooner be around a happy, optimistic person than a miserable, moaning pessimist. As I said before have a confidante but present your best self to everyone else who will respond positively and before you know it you are no longer acting. Also stop drinking, smoking and take exercise if you feel off kilter.

Lynibis I have some empathy for people i care about but most of the time i dont really listen to other peoples problems as i have my own to deal with and i believe you only get one crack at life so people need to stop whinging about life and do something to change your life if your unhappy.
