Wax Melts, Toiletry and Sweet Box Sellers - Making Undeclared Profits?

Ask a Question

One tweet was floating internet yesterday saying tag me in anymore fb wax melts or sweet boxes and am reporting you to HMRC.

I total agree with what he was saying because a lot of these are people claiming benifits and making profits from selling. I see them on Shpock gumtree etc. People businesses are struggling and we got people doing this.

It is so true to an extent. So many people paying all the outgoings to be legit and earn a living then others out there who are making all sorts on the side and all in their back pocket.

I always see people on the fb selling pages advertising wax melts, sweet boxes, avon, the body shop etc. If I was going to buy from Avon or The Body Shop I would go onto their websites. If I wanted wax melts or sweetie boxes I would ask for recommendations on the local community page. I know that these people are just trying to make a living but I'm always wary about it.

I agree it’s annoying to be tagged when you aren’t interested in buying the stuff but unfair to say everyone who sells is on benefits which isn’t true. Some people are selling to make extra money to live. The people that should be hit by the HMRC should be the top companies not paying tax and them amounts will make Karen down the road selling wax melts pointless.

Getsome I didn’t say all on benifits most are. Small businesses had gone under and people taking advantage of the situation

Ann1984 I agree people on benefits are taking the **** but it’s the larger businesses destroying smaller businesses not people selling on FB

I believe you are allowed to sell £1000 of stock before you are obliged to inform HMRC. I doubt they are making much money.

Grannyclock i was going to say the same thing, you can earn upto £1000 before you have to declare anything. Wax melts are quite cheap so like you say i dont think theyre making millions.

Grannyclock it don’t matter if making little it’s still fiddling the system if given money from government.

The person who wants to report those sellers to HMRC needs to be careful as the seller might not be claiming and actually might be self employed and pay tax

I saw on BBC last week that many unregistered (Food and Hygiene ) people were selling cakes , biscuits, sweets etc on Facebook etc . That of course is illegal .

Apparently its easy to register with your local council (you are unlikely to be inspected anytime soon ) to legalise yourself .

If you are unregistered and sell stuff to the general public you are leaving yourself open to all manner of comeback from vindictive buyers .

You should put more in your pension ? For every £120 you put in , you only lose £100 off your wages .
