Family Reunions/homecomings

Seeing and reading about the surprise reunions of servicemen and their families this morning took me way back to the birth of my first baby. His father was in the R.N. (So was I before we married, WRNS). After his birth at about 10 weeks old his daddy went on a long deployment and came home when he was 10 months old. I expected him to cry at this stranger but he went straight to him. Homecomings were always magical. Anyone else been apart from their partner for long periods of time?

Second child was born about 6 weeks into a 6 month deployment and hubby was able to get 2 weeks compassionate leave before going back for another 4 months. This was in the days before mobile phones, Skype or email. The odd phone call from port and handwritten letters were the only communication.
