Feeding Your Dog Once a Day is Better for Its' Health

Other

Scientists have done a study on the health of dogs and concluded feeding only once a day rather than twice can increase their health and lifespan

Research by the University of Arizona found that feeding a dog only once a day reduces the risk of nine types of age-related health problems mainly

cancer, , gastrointestinal problems, liver and kidney infections and urinary problems

This study was on over 24,000 dogs was quite intense

I never realised this might improve a dogs health , i suppose it is like humans fasting to improve theirs

It is certainly worth considering if we want our pets to be healthier and live longer

It’s a bit late now, my dog is 11 and I don’t think it would be fair to change her routine now. It’s worth looking into if I ever got another dog, but don’t tell my husband that!

Ann1984 The problem with nina is if you mention the word treat, her dental sticks, she is sitting to attention in seconds waiting, but we try to restrict her to a minimum of two a day, but only small pieces as she is only small Image

It's the same for humans in that eating once a day can extend life, fight cancer and cure many problems. The body was never designed for having regular meals it evolved to expect meals at random times when a hunt has been successful or has found fruit and vegetables etc. Often there was no ways of storing food so you would eat a lot and then perhaps a wait a while for the next meal. If you google for the benefits of fasting you will a huge amount of benefits and its pretty universal for all animals.

The body is designed to store fat etc to provide energy when there is no normal food and this is a much cleaner source of energy. You go into ketosis. Many humans have adapted to not going into ketosis because they have regular meals and this is an unhealthy state.

Saying that I love my food and don't eat one meal a day very often but the benefits are huge if you have the will power.

I have always fed my dogs once a day but they get a slice of dry toast for breakfast and do get treats throughout the day as well

My dog only gets fed once a day, fed a breakfast time and usually eats when the kids eat. Some days he leaves some until later but all his own choice
