How Do You Feel about Being Required to Wear a Mask Almost Everywhere in Public?

Ask a Question

Seeing this become the new "normal" will certainly be strange, and giving handshakes won't be possible either (the elbow thing seems dumb that they're trying to push as the replacement). Now, in some countries they're demanding all citizens to wear face masks or else they'll be penalized for not abiding the law.

However, if we're not in contact with another human being then we shouldn't have to wear a mask. The virus isn't airborne, but I'll grant them that it can stay in the air for limited time, so there's that.

Anyway, the duck-type masks make me chuckle whenever I see them. 😆 At least the personalized ones aren't that bad, but it feels like you're becoming the product and advertising it, if that's what it is.

Although, wearing one of your country is alright, I'd say.

Personally I wouldn't be happy to wear a mask and probably won't go out (as we don't now). I thought that in the civilised world we valued being able to see each others face and expressions which gives us insight into how someone is thinking and is in addition to the words said. I believe we will lose a lot if we can't see each others faces, deception will increase and a sense of community and belonging will be lost.

And I haven't even mentioned the hard of hearing yet - how are they supposed to lip read? 🐞

This is something I struggle with tumblespots as someone hard of hearing. Skype calls can be difficult as picture quality isn't very good and yesterday the face/voice wasn't in sync with one another.

I also struggle not being as close to someone either. The 2m rule makes it difficult to hear someone who I could normally hear and I've had to adjust settings on my hearing aids....

rararachel They really aren't thinking this through, circumstances aren't the same for everyone and they are trying to make the world the same for everyone as a whole, when we are all individuals and do have different needs!

I haven't ever used skype myself but even I can see that words and lips out of sync is terrible for those who rely on it. 🐞

I have bought all of us masks ready but if someone wearing similar to picture was walking towards me it would scare me and my nerves would be though the roof. Gangs are already scary just imagine them all wearing these too

As 70% of communication is via body language, including tone and facial expressions, this would cause a lot of misunderstanding and possibly aggression, especially as face coverings, as in the picture, can appear to be threatening.

Masks do not stop you from getting Covid-19 they are there to offer the wearer some protection if they are dealing/assisting someone with Covid-19 or if you have cough/sneezing to stop the cough/sneeze spreading and you have to know how to wear it https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/advice-for-public/when-and-how-to-use-masks Masks are a bit like gloves, people wear them all the time, gloves become a second skin. I've seen people drive cars/use phone/open doors/blow nose with gloves on then go straight into supermarket - no hand sanitiser because they have gloves on! Glove routine - sanitise, glove on ONE hand this is your clean hand for lifting shopping, non gloved hand is for trolley, phone, child, nose, shopping done dispose of glove.

I witnessed a lady in town several days ago remove the mask she was wearing, cough into the air & place it back on. Defeating the whole purpose of her actually wearing it in the first place. Surely there's not much point to wearing one in the first place if people are going to do that? Anyway I'm not keen on mask wearing for much the same reasons others have stated above.

Totally defeats the object of wearing it. I have no objection to wearing a mask until a vaccine has been developed and immunisation takes place.

I haven't worn a mask during the lockdown and wouldn't want to be forced to do so. Masks haven't been made compulsory in the UK yet as there is a fear this would negatively impact NHS supplies. Hospitals have already been struggling with PPE shortages during the outbreak. Increased demand would likely make things worse.

I'll wear one if it helps. Have Italy or any other countries produced any data on how wearing masks has helped or not?

I'd be happy to wear a mask to keep myself and others safe - and that's all it comes down to really. No ones doing it because they really want to wear a mask are they, its for safety

There's this easy no-sew mask you can make with a bandanna or something of similar size, worth checking out. Can be washed too so it saves you buying and using lots of single-use masks

Not a fan of these masks. I've not worn one during this period of lockdown. But if it's for the greater good (hot fuzz reference) then yeah I suppose I'll wear one. Don't really want to though
