How Do You Feel When You Wake up before Your Alarm ?
Ask a Question
I am not a morning person, if I wake up before my alarm, even if its only 5 minutes, I feel cheated and will stay in bed until my alarm goes off. It could be because I have trouble getting to sleep.
My husband is the complete opposite, he goes to sleep as soon as head touches the pillow and gets up as soon as he wakes up.
So, I wondered if I am in the minority.

Depends how close to the alarm it actually is for me, if it's anything over 30 mins then not good

Depends how long before it goes off. If it's an hour I just get back to sleep albeit lightly. If 5 mins I probably just get up anyway. It takes me a while to drop off at night but husband, like yours, just hits pillow and is off. Gets up normally though.

I seldom ever use an alarm cos I always wake up desperate for a pee.If it's after 9 then I get up anyway.I usually go to bed between 12-2 am and am asleep within minutes.

I don't set any alarm to wake up now.
Depending on the night I've had and if I get any sleep at all. Been having some mad dreams though lately.

I’m retired so need to set an alarm but I suffer with insomnia so awake for hours when everyone else is fast asleep.

Pjran I set my alarm for getting up for work, one of the greatest things about the weekends and holidays is being on your own timetable. When I retire I won't set my alarm unless I need to be somewhere at a specific time. It will be bliss after 40+ years of working

beccatavender I hope the government don’t raise retirement age again. It’s 66 at the moment but I know it’s going up in a couple years though.

Pjran For me it's 67 but I am hoping to retire at 60 so only have another 2 years to go before I can access my works pension. Trying to save as much as possible before then to supplement my pension.I am not in the best of health, so don't want to wait, if I could afford it I would retire tomorrow

beccatavender that’s wonderful for you. I retired early taking only my works pension then getting my OAP pension was a bonus, I did have to pay a couple of missing years NI contributions.

Pjran My husband was in a similar situation, he retired at 52 and got his state pension this year, so is thrilled with the extra £ helps with the increased cost of living

My bed is always at its most comfortable when the alarm goes off and it's time to get up.

RegularComper91 Especially in the winter, when you just want to cuddle up and go back to sleep

beccatavender Oh yes definitely. I sometimes think to myself "just another 5 minutes won't hurt". But that 5 minutes ends up being a couple of hours.

If it's less then 30 minutes it doesn't bother me. I get up and get on with it. It's annoying.

The only time I have ever set an alarm is when I maybe have to be away early for a holiday and at one stage I had a twice weekly job escorting a youngster to and from school and had to get up at 4a.m. as it was a 4 hour return journey. I have a great body clock and routing and have never been late for work.

My alarm is my four paws (14years old dog) she wakes me up anytime from 5am onwards to let me know she needs the garden, doesn't matter how late her night before toilet visit is

Pinkspirit When my son was young he used to get up early, I hate getting up early, I am not fit to be around people until I've had at least two cups of coffee I suppose you get used to it, do you go back to bed ?

beccatavender nope, once I'm awake l get up and potter about, l always feel my bed is for sleeping in, I'm not one for reading a book or being on my phone / tablet sitting up in bed, yep l need to relax more but l feel I'm being lazy and wasting the day...Enjoy your coffees

Usually annoyed as i could have had the extra time asleep. Occasionally it works out well cause i manage to get a few more things done.

I get woken up at 3am by a neighbour leaving in his truck, then between 5:50 and 6:00 by another neighbour who has 4 exhaust pipes on his car. So I'm awake well before my 6.45 alarm goes off. Looking at doing 'noise diary' to complain

G0501 I really for you, I am lucky it's quiet where I live, the only noise is barking dogs at about 7am, the neighbour at the back as 4-5 dogs who must bark when he leaves for work.

I hardly ever set a alarm as it doesn’t matter what time I get up but when I do set an alarm I always wake up before it goes off.

Not a morning person either. I have 3 alarms with 5-10 minutes spacing - I can wake up properly and get up slowly

I am exactly the same as you and will wait in bed for it to go off. If I set an alarm I am guaranteed to wake up before it and it always annoys me. I like my sleep and bed far too much and want to get out slowly.

Auntielettie Wish I felt that way, if I have to get up during the night it takes ages to get back to sleep, so I think that contributes to my feels of being cheated if I wake up before the alarm

That I wish I could have slept the night before. Insomnia keeps me awake the night and drives me insane!!!

HannahAlex94888 I can sympathise, I suffer from it sometimes. Friday night I saw the sun come up and I knew I hadn't slept a wink. No matter how tired you feel your body won't let you sleep !!

martinlufc5637 My husband is similar and says it's a sign of a well ordered mind, not something to say to me first thing in the morning

beccatavender I don't know about having a well organised mind lol I don't sleep much, I probably average 4 hours a night

Don't use an alarm but usually I get woken up needing a wee or just get up because of feeling cold or even warm.

I tend to go to bed 10-1030ish and takes what i think an eternity to actually fall asleep. I do also set an alarm for 5am but usually up before that so tend to turn it off as soon as i wake up, if I get up I can't get back to sleep again
