Who Feels That Foundation Should Not Have SPF?

Ask a Question

I simply think its very misleading for those who are not aware of the importance of wearing sunscreen throughout the day. SPF in foundation does nothing and is simply more chemicals added to a product unnecessarily

I tend to think that anything is better than nothing and prefer a foundation or moisturiser with some sort of SPF

Thank you for your comments BORDERJOE and Imnotcheap, I am never sure simply because sunscreen needs to be reapplied during the day so I was wondering if it actually ever made difference. Just finding more and more higher end brands and chosing to not have SPF in their foundation?.

Hana12 I just stick with SIMPLE moisturiser with SPF and very occasionally, I use a foundation with SPF ... mainly cos I am really good about moisturiser but hate most sun lotions and do realise I should be more protective.

BORDERJOE I totally agree with you, I was wondering what everyone thought where but I think we all need to remember how important sunscreen is even with this gloomy British Weather!

Leannexxx you know I have found since the lockdowns, I don't either but as we go back into the office and move back into normality I am reconsidering wearing as much makeup as I used to. My skin has never been better!

Spf in foundation wouldn't give you adequate protection because you won't be wearing enough of it. Here's a good video by a make up artist (Wayne Goss) who demonstrates well how much product you'd actually need to apply for some level of protection

I certainly wouldn't recommend it as a look 😂.

yeuch..... that is scary!!!!! Still ... I know what I'm like for makeup ... it's just not me so I'll stick with SIMPLE moisturiser and a sunhat and hope ..... I know I should use sunscreen regularly mind.

BORDERJOE Glitterandgold 🤢 I think I will stick to moisturiser and not bother thinking about the spf in foundation after that video! Not to mention I find flashback is the worst when foundation has SPF. If it does nothing because there isn't enough, I am getting flashback pictures for nothing 😑

Hana12 It probably doesn't hurt to have added spf in make up etc for extra protection but certainly don't rely on it unless you want to wear that much at once 😄. It's just a selling gimmick really. BORDERJOE Have to admit i haven't always been good myself at wearing spf. I do try to remember particularly on hotter days.

Glitterandgold I think that's me too ...if we were on hols and I was out then yep I'd wear the stuff but in 'normal' coming and going I'm not good with it ... It helps that I can't do with being too hot now ... but I realise that even on cloudy days we should take care.

I wasn't aware of this, I pay extra for foundation with an SPF

beccatavender As extra ingredients are added, this can increase the costs of production. Often we may find they are pointless but companies add them because we as consumers would rather purchase items that meet certain criteria.

I’ve just bought some boots No7 factor 50 advanced face cream which I will apply before my foundation.

Pjran I certainly think that's the best bet, using a good quality SPF under the foundation to be safe. Not to mention it often works as a great primer and moisturiser underneath foundation!
