Your opinions? Would you want your car worked on by a female technician?
Is there any here? I am a qualified technician, it’s handy being able to repair my own car and my boyfriends van.
But I don’t work in the workshop anymore, but still do a technical related job that will be more practical for the future 
I think its brilliant, I don't personally mind who works on my car as long as they fix it and are trustworthy, but i do find garages intimidating places, so a female run garage would make me feel more comfortable.
Comfortable, but safe? That's a false sense of security people create based on gender.
I've never thought about it and don't have any reason to prefer one over the other so it doesn't bother me. It would be different if it was someone coming to my house to fo work. For example, I feel more comfortable with a female cleaner.
Not to me but to mechanics who work hard and then they're looked down due to their gender. markpj777

I've never seen one or do manual labor either. But hey, as long as they know what they're doing then good for them.
What customers want is the job to be done properly.
I wouldn't care who worked on my car as long as they're qualified. Whoever is best at the job at an affordable rate.
You didn't offend markpj777 so don't apologise for having an opinion. I assume from your handle you are Mark and therefore male. What a lot of men don't get, and never will, is how it feels when a woman walks into a male environment like a garage. Intimidated doesn't come near and it is something a man will never experience, that feeling of being sized up, judged on how sexy you may or may not be and dismissed if you are old or plain looking. Photos of naked women, swearing, macho swaggering and the usual babe, darling and sweetheart when addressing you. Not so bad nowadays with the pc brigade but that is the world women lived in until relatively recently. And yes, I would definitely feel safer and more comfortable if a woman could do my car, garden, decorating etc but I wouldn't go so far as to say they would be more trustworthy or do the job any better.
PS research has proven that lone women are charged more by men for the same job as what they charge their own gender.
I wouldn‘t have a problem with it whether it be male/female as long as they are competent at their job and get the job done who cares what their gender is.
I'm not sexist in this regard but I am age-ist and like to have older technicians working on my car who I feel will have more experience. Not keen to see apprentices working on my car. Of course this is just an assumption of skill which is logical but could be wrong on occasion. When you see how they pack all the components in under a bonnet nowadays I can see smaller hands actually having an advantage in accessing some parts.
I agree to a certain extent but sometimes it works in the opposite way. I used to always prefer an older, and to my mind more experienced doctor for example, but then began to find younger docs were more thorough and probably more up to date with modern methods and medicines. This probably applies to a lot of professions.
Mechanics from what I've seen never wear any protection for their ears so their hearing could be potentially affected by it, though they get used to it and might not notice. The point is, they work really hard and prioritize their job over their health safety (they get their hands all dirty too).
So I agree with you but folks here seem to underappreciate what mechanics do and go through. If a woman can do the job, good for her but don't have someone just to fill the gender requirement.
Hm, I personally find older doctors more reliable than younger ones because they've been around for far longer. New doctors might be as good but given the choice, I'd pick older. Lynibis
Mechanics are supposed to wear PPE, especially in a main dealership it is extremely important to wear bump caps and goggles at the appropriate time’s or you face a disciplinary action! If mechanics are choosing not to protect themselves then that its their own silly decision! I would also disagree with the age comments from what I have experienced first hand it appears that the younger generation are more confident on working on the newer technologies etc. Whereas an old timer mechanic probably wouldn’t even know where to start with al the electrics on newer vehicles.
Also as a female technician, I can advise that I am more than capable of doing vehicle repairs and probably more competent than older men who have being doing it for 50 years plus. It is quite right that gender does not come in to it as long as you are capable of doing the task in hand!
I guess it depends on how mechanics are trained, I imagine much of the training is on the job and they probably have access to multimedia instructions for each task they do after the computer has accessed the fault codes etc. I just feel that experience adds to the skill level. I certainly wouldn't be re-assured if the mechanic looked 70 years old and keeps going on about how great the Ford model T was. I've seen a few different doctors in my time and admit the best one I've encountered in recent times was a young female doctor but when I say young probably 30-35 years old but not like 65 like many of the others.
