A woman with underlying health conditions has become the first person in the UK to die after testing positive for coronavirus.
The Royal Berkshire NHS Trust said the patient, understood to be in her 70s, had been in and out of hospital for non-coronavirus reasons.
She was admitted and tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday.
It comes as the number of UK people diagnosed with the virus reached 116, a rise of more than 30 in 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the prime minister's official spokesman said it was "highly likely the virus is going to spread in a significant way".
May God bless and protect you all my heart is deeply sad today there are 79 more patients I hope and pray for their speedy recovery.
Just seen in news it's truly sad 200 people got effected so far. I wish they come up with some meds now.
KijManhas Because this is a fairly new virus, it will probably be about 18 months before there's the remotest chance of a vaccine being developed. The rate it is escalating (by multiplication) there could be thousands infected inside a week or two.
3 now man in his 60s just come back from Italy
I've been trying to get this point across, he came back from Italy, his close family are now in self isolation, but what about all the other people he came into contact with between his return from Italy and the "almost accidental" detection of his condition?
The way I see it we could be just a few weeks behind Italy. I hope I'm wrong.
Incidentally the hospital he died in was where my father and mother died, more recently a nephew died and where my late wife was found dead on arrival, and yet details of who he was or where he lived are kept secret, so not giving anyone in the vicinity of where he lived, who perhaps knew him, and had any contact with him to get checked out. So there could be hundreds, if not thousands, of "carriers" near where I live.
I don't want to be alarmist, but in the words of Private Frazer (Dad's army) and Homer Simpson:
davidstockport firstly sorry for your lose I agree that these people that have died would have been in contact with thousands. I do believe that there is a lot more people diagnosed then they saying. They should also mention the post code of where these people are so others can know if yeah I been there or in contact. Plus I did read that apparently 45 percent of people don't even know they have it as show no symptoms.
Ann1984 None of the losses were recent - but thanks all the same. I am in the high risk category for four reasons, so have not been as complacent as many seem to be.
There's probably a number of them in London, Birmingham, Manchester, etc, but unreported.
I think it's more likely to be "undetected" as opposed to unreported. My own feeling is that those detected (and reported) are just the tip of the iceberg. There could already be thousands who are already incubating the disease who show no signs yet.
To get a true picture, it might be necessary to test perhaps 1,000 people who show no sign or have no known contact with known victims and see what that reveals, (That's just my opinion - there are no plans, that I know of, to do it).
PhilipMarc Are you telling me that in modern British hospitals, there will be some deaths that are not recognised as being caused by this coronavirus even though they are? I may be wrong here but assuming cause of death reports are very much focussed on checking whether it is coronavirus during this time.
Everybody who has died had an underlying health condition. Sadly their immune systems would not have been able to cope with various viruses, not just the coronavirus which happens to be the one that got them.

The virus is technologically advanced so I wouldn't trust what the officials and media are saying about it. There was a perfectly healthy young Chinese doctor and even he died too.
TheChimp this is what makes me most cross about stockpiling. People like yourself and the elderly are far more likely to need to self isolate for longer I would think but if you lived round here you would be struggling to buy shopping as it's being bought in trolley loads by people who should know better. I hope you stay well. COPD is bad enough on its own.
PhilipMarc Everybody who has died in the UK so far has been elderley with existing conditions. My point is a lot of this is scaremongering. People are panicking and stockpiling because of it.
The scaremongering is being done by the media, they're treating it like we're upon a zombie outbreak.

PhilipMarc It's a combination of that and chinese whispers through social media. The latter is becoming a bigger problem. Even this website is an example of how one person can say something and people will blindly believe it.
I saw on the news how shelves in U.K. supermarkets were empty and that made me laugh. Also, I couldn't help chuckle at "wash your hands".

Dennab To put it in even more perspective again. There is roughly 7.7 BILLION people globally, so far just over 4.000 deaths globally to the virus, However over 65.000 have recovered.
Hows that fuelling panic? Anyway what medical professional are you to say its not more serious?
Getsome Just let me know how a comment like "going to be a lot more" is going to have anything other than a negative affect on people. It's a pointless response. Of course more people will die. You may as well say "it will rain within the next two months".
I am basing my comments on statistics, facts and actual information I have taken the time to read instead of dipping into headlines like you probably have and then jumped on the internet to scare people.
People like yourself are the reason others go out and buy 100 toilet rolls. That is why I responded to you. It doesn't take a 'medical professional' or even somebody particularly intelligent to figure that out.
So what medical professional are you to determine that this is not a serious illness? Countries are shutting down, places are closing. You are the type to tell everyone its fine but you will have more stock than anyone else.
its terrible, but i think the main part is that she had an underlying illness... its been known for the virus to be deadly to people with poor health. i did read a news article the other day basically saying how they are showing the negative not the positive... i.e hoe many people are being cured by the virus. dont get me wrong i see the seriousness of this but i think people need to be mindful.
like stop bulk buying hand sanitisers, elderly, young ill health people do need them a whole lot more by the looks of things
They are the second coronavirus patient to be announced dead on Monday. Both were in their 70s with underlying health problems.

A fifth person in the UK has died after contracting the coronavirus, an NHS Trust has said.
Two suggestions:
- If you think you have this virus, do not go within breathing distance of elderly people.
- Stop panicking.
The Corona virus is getting worser as this day in the UK has been the worst as a lot more cases have been confirmed
I read in news today its spreading fast in kids but more deadly for elderly people, young people are likely to be saved
